Prescott seeks perfect record in Gurdon game
PRESCOTT, Ark.—Prescott tries to stay perfect today at it hosts Gurdon in a Conference 5-3A matchup.
The Curley Wolves (4-0, 1-0) are coming off a 20-9 win over Centerpoint last Friday.
The Go-Devils (2-2, 0-1) look to earn a conference win as they fell to Horatio, 13-7, in a good, tight defensive game for both squads last week.
Prescott has given up an average of 13 points per game, while Gurdon has surrendered 17 points per game. The Curley Wolves are scoring an average of 35.8 points per outing, and the Go-Devils score 21.3 points per game.
Against Gurdon, Prescott senior quarterback Derrick Flynn hit on 16 of 24 passes for 202 yards. Flynn ran 20 times for 100 yards and one touchdown. The senior QB also helped out on defense as he made two interceptions.
Senior running back Carlos Vanhook toted the ball 18 times for 68 yards and two scores.
Curley Wolf sophomore receiver Cameron Cox caught five of Flynn's passes for 64 yards. Cox averaged 12.8 yards per grab. Sophomore Jordan Glass caught three passes for 57 yards; an average of 19 yards per snag.
Sophomore Colton Johnson led Prescott's defense with 14 tackles, including two tackles for a loss. Johnson also made three sacks.
Gurdon's junior quarterback Thomas Muldrow totaled 127 all purpose yards against Horatio. Muldrow threw for just 41 yards on 8-of-20 passing and two interceptions.
Go-Devil junior B.J. Brewer had the most productive night on defense for Gurdon with 14 tackles, including one for loss, and a fumble recovery. Senior Donald Haynie made nine stops.
Prescott's goal is to run a balanced offense. So far this season, the Curley Wolves have racked up 568 yards through the air and 976 on the ground.
