Genoa Cen­tral falls in bas­ket­ball tour­ney

GENOA, Ark.—Host Genoa Cen­tral fell in the semi­fi­nals of the girls 7-3A bas­ket­ball tour­na­ment, as did Fouke Thurs­day.

Mean­while, both Prescott boys and girls will play for the con­fer­ence tour­na­ment ti­tles Satur­day.

Genoa Cen­tral plays Fouke Satur­day at 3 p.m. in the con­so­la­tion game.

Prescott faces Cos­satot River in the girls cham­pi­onship at 6 p.m.

In the boys' cham­pi­onship Prescott takes on Cen­ter­point at 7:30, while Gur­don takes on Cos­satot River at 4:30 for the con­so­la­tion.

BOYS

PRESCOTT 58, COS­SATOT RIVER 48

GENOA, Ark.—Prescott boys' bas­ket­ball team ad­vances to the fi­nals of the con­fer­ence tour­na­ment after de­feat­ing Cos­satot River.

Deonte Jami­son led the Cur­ley Wolves of­fen­sive at­tack, scor­ing a team-high 17 points in the con­test. Bra­lyn Wil­son added 16 points for Prescott.

Marco Ramirez scored a game­high 18 points for Cos­satot River and Trevon Branch added 11 points.

CEN­TER­POINT 59, GUR­DON 38

GENOA, Ark.—Cen­ter­point ad­vances to the con­fer­ence fi­nals after de­feat­ing Gur­don in boys' var­sity bas­ket­ball.

Keen an Owens led the Knights of­fen­sively, scor­ing a game-high 18 points in the rout.

Collin Gul­ley led the Go-Devils of­fense, pour­ing in a team-high 16 points in the con­test.

GIRLS

COS­SATOT RIVER 49, FOUKE 38

GENOA, Ark.—Cos­satot River's girls' var­sity squad ad­vances to the fi­nals of the Dis­trict 7-3A con­fer­ence tour­na­ment after de­feat­ing Fouke.

Ashlen Gon­za­lez steered the Lady Ea­gles of­fense, scor­ing a game-high 25 points.

Hannah Mauldin led Fouke's of­fen­sive out­put, pour­ing in a team-high 12 points. River Watkins added 11 points for the Lady Pan­thers.

PRESCOTT 49, GENOA CEN­TRAL 45

GENOA, Ark.—Hayleigh Wi­ley swished in a team-high 15 points as Prescott es­caped Genoa Cen­tral at Lady Dragon Gym in the 7-3A con­fer­ence tour­na­ment.

Anna By­ers added 13 for the Lady Cur­ley Wolves, while team­mate La­cie Nolen had 10.

Carly Wood led all scor­ers with 17, Eden Crow hooped up 15, and Vic­to­ria Hill drained 10 points for the Dragons.

SOFT­BALL

LADY DRAGONS WIN TRIO

BON­HAM, Texas—Red­wa­ter won all three of its games at the Bon­ham soft­ball tour­na­ment.

Ramzi Smith struck out 10 bat­ters as the Lady Dragons de­feated Howe 12-4. Sara Easley went 2 for 4 with a home run and four RBI.

Kelsey Har­ris and Kee­ley Wil­bur went 3 for 3 each as Red­wa­ter blanked Sam Ray­burn 13-0. Karli Boa­tright smacked a home run, and team­mate Betha­nee Cal­i­cott fanned nine.

Bai­ley O'Ban­non belted a grand slam and went 2 for 2 to lead the Dragons over Van Al­styne 14-2 in the third game of the day. Boa­tright and Jor­dan Wal­raven went 2 for 2 apiece, Sa­van­nah Cor­bell was 3 for 3, and Cal­i­cott added four strike­outs.

Red­wa­ter is back in ac­tion Satur­day in the Bon­ham tour­na­ment at 9 a.m.

TEXAS HIGH 7, ROYSE CITY 3

TEXAS HIGH 5, MESQUITE PO­TEET 2

SUL­PHUR SPRINGS, Texas— Texas High started the sea­son off with two wins in the Sul­phur Springs soft­ball tour­na­ment.

Kait­lyn Cross went 3 for 4 with three sin­gles as the Lady Tigers de­feated Royse City in their first game. Lind­sey Eg­ger was the win­ning pitcher and tossed a com­plete game.

Bai­ley Groom went 2 for 2 with an RBI, Bra­ley Turner and Court­ney Cheek went 2 for 4 each. Cheek slapped a dou­ble for Texas High.

Ken­zee Hessert hit a solo home run for the Lady Bull­dogs, while team­mate Karis Hessert went 2 for 3 with two sin­gles.

Turner smacked in two runs on a dou­ble for the Tigers in their 5-2 win over Mesquite Po­teet.

Mabry Smith pitched a com­plete game and earned the win.

Brit­tany Clark clubbed two home runs and was 2 for 2 for the Lady Pi­rates.

Each game was lim­ited to 90 min­utes.

Texas High (2-0) plays Gran­bury at 5 p.m. in the Sul­phur Springs tour­na­ment to­day.

RED­WA­TER WEIGHTLIFT­ING IN­VI­TA­TIONAL

RED­WA­TER, Texas—Lib­er­tyEy­lau won the Red­wa­ter Weightlift­ing In­vi­ta­tional with a com­bined team score of 45 points. Texas High placed sec­ond with a team score of 39 points and Red­wa­ter fin­ished third, com­bin­ing a to­tal score of 28 points.

Zanoah Arnold of Lib­er­tyEy­lau won the 198-weight class with a com­bined weight of 1430. Chris Arnold of Texas High placed sec­ond with a com­bined weight of 1345.

Dar­rell Houff of L-E won the 220-weight class with a com­bined weight of 1470. Hunter Har­ri­son of Red­wa­ter placed sec­ond with a com­bined weight of 1470. Michael Lind­ley placed third for Lib­erty-Ey­lau with a com­bined weight of 1415.

Colton Bergt of L-E won the 242-weight class with a com­bined weight of 1340. Dy­lan Sav­age placed sec­ond with a com­bined weight of 1215.

Cheyenne Lock­hart Lib­er­tyEy­lau placed sec­ond in the 275-weight class with a com­bined weight of 1345 and De­waven Row­den L-E cap­tured third place with a com­bined weight of 1280.

Shamal Parish of L-E won the su­per heavy weight di­vi­sion with a com­bined weight of 1310. Elian Bus­tos of Texas High placed sec­ond with a com­bined weight of 1215 and Carl Oliver of THS cap­tured third place with a com­bined weight of 1125.
