Genoa Central falls in basketball tourney
GENOA, Ark.—Host Genoa Central fell in the semifinals of the girls 7-3A basketball tournament, as did Fouke Thursday.
Meanwhile, both Prescott boys and girls will play for the conference tournament titles Saturday.
Genoa Central plays Fouke Saturday at 3 p.m. in the consolation game.
Prescott faces Cossatot River in the girls championship at 6 p.m.
In the boys' championship Prescott takes on Centerpoint at 7:30, while Gurdon takes on Cossatot River at 4:30 for the consolation.
PRESCOTT 58, COSSATOT RIVER 48
GENOA, Ark.—Prescott boys' basketball team advances to the finals of the conference tournament after defeating Cossatot River.
Deonte Jamison led the Curley Wolves offensive attack, scoring a team-high 17 points in the contest. Bralyn Wilson added 16 points for Prescott.
Marco Ramirez scored a gamehigh 18 points for Cossatot River and Trevon Branch added 11 points.
CENTERPOINT 59, GURDON 38
GENOA, Ark.—Centerpoint advances to the conference finals after defeating Gurdon in boys' varsity basketball.
Keen an Owens led the Knights offensively, scoring a game-high 18 points in the rout.
Collin Gulley led the Go-Devils offense, pouring in a team-high 16 points in the contest.
COSSATOT RIVER 49, FOUKE 38
GENOA, Ark.—Cossatot River's girls' varsity squad advances to the finals of the District 7-3A conference tournament after defeating Fouke.
Ashlen Gonzalez steered the Lady Eagles offense, scoring a game-high 25 points.
Hannah Mauldin led Fouke's offensive output, pouring in a team-high 12 points. River Watkins added 11 points for the Lady Panthers.
PRESCOTT 49, GENOA CENTRAL 45
GENOA, Ark.—Hayleigh Wiley swished in a team-high 15 points as Prescott escaped Genoa Central at Lady Dragon Gym in the 7-3A conference tournament.
Anna Byers added 13 for the Lady Curley Wolves, while teammate Lacie Nolen had 10.
Carly Wood led all scorers with 17, Eden Crow hooped up 15, and Victoria Hill drained 10 points for the Dragons.
LADY DRAGONS WIN TRIO
BONHAM, Texas—Redwater won all three of its games at the Bonham softball tournament.
Ramzi Smith struck out 10 batters as the Lady Dragons defeated Howe 12-4. Sara Easley went 2 for 4 with a home run and four RBI.
Kelsey Harris and Keeley Wilbur went 3 for 3 each as Redwater blanked Sam Rayburn 13-0. Karli Boatright smacked a home run, and teammate Bethanee Calicott fanned nine.
Bailey O'Bannon belted a grand slam and went 2 for 2 to lead the Dragons over Van Alstyne 14-2 in the third game of the day. Boatright and Jordan Walraven went 2 for 2 apiece, Savannah Corbell was 3 for 3, and Calicott added four strikeouts.
Redwater is back in action Saturday in the Bonham tournament at 9 a.m.

SULPHUR SPRINGS, Texas— Texas High started the season off with two wins in the Sulphur Springs softball tournament.
Kaitlyn Cross went 3 for 4 with three singles as the Lady Tigers defeated Royse City in their first game. Lindsey Egger was the winning pitcher and tossed a complete game.
Bailey Groom went 2 for 2 with an RBI, Braley Turner and Courtney Cheek went 2 for 4 each. Cheek slapped a double for Texas High.
Kenzee Hessert hit a solo home run for the Lady Bulldogs, while teammate Karis Hessert went 2 for 3 with two singles.
Turner smacked in two runs on a double for the Tigers in their 5-2 win over Mesquite Poteet.
Mabry Smith pitched a complete game and earned the win.
Brittany Clark clubbed two home runs and was 2 for 2 for the Lady Pirates.
Each game was limited to 90 minutes.
Texas High (2-0) plays Granbury at 5 p.m. in the Sulphur Springs tournament today.
REDWATER WEIGHTLIFTING INVITATIONAL
REDWATER, Texas—LibertyEylau won the Redwater Weightlifting Invitational with a combined team score of 45 points. Texas High placed second with a team score of 39 points and Redwater finished third, combining a total score of 28 points.
Zanoah Arnold of LibertyEylau won the 198-weight class with a combined weight of 1430. Chris Arnold of Texas High placed second with a combined weight of 1345.
Darrell Houff of L-E won the 220-weight class with a combined weight of 1470. Hunter Harrison of Redwater placed second with a combined weight of 1470. Michael Lindley placed third for Liberty-Eylau with a combined weight of 1415.
Colton Bergt of L-E won the 242-weight class with a combined weight of 1340. Dylan Savage placed second with a combined weight of 1215.
Cheyenne Lockhart LibertyEylau placed second in the 275-weight class with a combined weight of 1345 and Dewaven Rowden L-E captured third place with a combined weight of 1280.
Shamal Parish of L-E won the super heavy weight division with a combined weight of 1310. Elian Bustos of Texas High placed second with a combined weight of 1215 and Carl Oliver of THS captured third place with a combined weight of 1125.
