Transit board asked to prepare report on condition of its assets for the feds
The Federal Transportation Agency is seeking information about both the Texarkana Urban Transit District’s mobile and structural assets in an effort to gauge future funding needs for the district.
During the district’s regular monthly Board of Directors meeting Thursday, T-Line Transportation Manager Nancy Hoehn told board members that the FTA seeks information on the condition on both the T-Line’s five-year-old Transit Center on Texas Boulevard and its 17-year-old maintenance building on Elm Street—in addition to ages of each of its 12 passenger buses.
Hoehn said that once the FTA has this information from the district as well as from the rest of the transit districts across the country, the agency will be able to better manage transportation assets nationwide. The report will need to be submitted to the FTA by the end of this year.
In other business, Hoehn told board members that the district will need to submit a five-year Regional Coordinated Transportation Plan to the Texas Department of Transportation by the end of the month.
TxDOT wants the district to submit a plan that gauges what it will need to do to best serve bus transit dependent users— such as senior adults, disabled military veterans, disabled residents in general and low income residents dependent on federal housing five years from now.
Following some discussion, board members approved both plans.
