Ar­kan­sas awards $3M bid to im­prove free­way off-ramps

The Ar­kan­sas High­way Com­mis­sion re­cently ap­proved a bid for safety im­prove­ment aimed at re­duc­ing wrong-way crashes for free­ways and in­ter­state high­ways in the state.

The com­mis­sion ap­proved a bid for im­prove­ments to 351 free­way off-ramps through­out the state, ac­cord­ing to Ar­kan­sas State High­way and Trans­porta­tion Depart­ment of­fi­cials.

“The pur­pose of this project is to in­stall off-ramp im­prove­ments such as sign re­place­ments, low­ered signs and ramp de­lin­eations, said Krista Sides, a spokes­woman for the high­way depart­ment.

The ramps in south­west Ar­kan­sas will fol­low In­ter­state 30 and In­ter­state 49.

Ewing Sig­nal Con­struc­tion, LLC of Nixa, Mo., was awarded the con­tract at $3,098,847.80.

Con­struc­tion is sched­uled to be­gin in two to four weeks, weather per­mit­ting. Com­ple­tion is ex­pected in late 2017.
