Lufkin’s Green going to CWS in first year with TCU

- By Brandon Ogden

Omaha, Nebraska, has become somewhat of a second home to the Texas Christian University Horned Frogs.

The TCU senior class has advanced to the College World Series in all of its four years on campus.

Former Lufkin Panther Haylen Green—a freshman pitcher for TCU—will get to join in on the fun this year.

“It's a dream come true,” Green said.

Green has pitched in 14 games this season, making two starts. He didn't pitch a lot early in the season, but has seen more action later in the season. Green is 2-1 with a 3.26 ERA with 24 strikeouts in 191/3 innings.

“Of course I wanted to pitch more at the beginning, but I used it as a time of learning,” Green said. “I was able to sit back and learn from the older guys. Once I got my chance, I wanted to do everything that I needed to do. It's worked out well. I've been able to do everything I've wanted to do as a freshman.”

And that list of course includes making the College World Series.

“My dad and I had talked about going, but I wanted my first time to go to be on the field playing,” Green said. “I'm looking forward to the atmosphere of being in a packed stadium. I grew up watching, praying that one day I would get to play there, and now it's all coming true. I get to go have fun playing the game I've been playing my whole life.”
