Ouachita, Genoa win Huntze meet
Ouachita's Boys and Genoa Central's girls were the team winners of the Jack Huntze Invitational Cross Country meet at Trinity High School Saturday.
Ouachita had a five-man team total of 36 points. Jackson Smith led the team with a third place finish, and the other four were sixth, seven, eighth, and 12th.
Ouachita is in the same district as Trinity Christian.
“I'll be stunned if they don't win state,” Russ Nelson, Trinity's head coach said.
Genoa Central was a distant second with 74 points, and Lakeside Hot Springs was third with 78.
The Lady Dragons just barely edged out Pleasant Grove with 51 points over the Lady Hawks' 53. Lakeside Hot Springs was third with 74 points.
Lakeside was an easy winner in the junior high competition with 55 points. Placing second was Bismark with 112 and third went to Wright City, Okla., with 117.
Genoa's junior high girls also had a close match but seized the win with a 54-56 victory over Lakeside. Wright City was third at 107.
“This is the biggest meet we've ever had, and the largest I've been around,” said Nelson. “It was a great day weather wise, and we had over 400 runners. We had three schools from Louisiana and Oklahoma..”

The top 15 boys and girls received medals.
Caleb Wrublesby, Lakeside, was the overall boys junior high winner with a time of 9:37, and Lydia Coleuas of Pleasant Grove was the girls winner with a time of 10:53.
Top 10 finishers for Genoa Central's senior girls were Janie Bentley (4th), Fiamma Delgrosso (5th), Victoria Hill (6th), and Carly Eddy (10th).
The junior Lady Dragons were led by Donna Jo Rowe (4th) and Heather Riley (7th).
Jack Jones (2nd) and Ryan Whitehead (5th) were top 10 finishers for Genoa Central's senior boys.
Junior High boys and girls run 1.7 miles,while the varsity run 3.1 miles.
