North Heights alumni honor student Summer Barrick
Summer Barrick, a North Heights Junior High School student, recently received the North Heights Alumni Association Eighth Grade Achievement Award.
Since 1970, the alumni association has recognized an eighth-grade student at the school.
Summer was chosen based on her grades, conduct and general involvement.
Summer’s parents Josh and Christy Barrick and her grandmother Linda Christenson attended the award presentation.
A permanent plaque noting the honor with Summer’s name will remain at the school.
The award presentation coincided with the alumni association’s 81st annual reunion.
More than 115 years ago, North Heights School District formed to serve the northern side of Texarkana, Ark.
By 1952, the school district consolidated with Texarkana, Ark., School District.
Today, North Heights school district and its mascot, the Bear, are left only in the memories of those who cherished the times they spent running around the schoolyard near 35th Street.
