Postseason lineup starts to take shape

TEXARKANA — A few local teams clinched playoff berths last week as the regular and district seasons begin to wind down, and a couple of teams saw the postseason lights diminish.

Texas High’s girls basketball team wrapped up a playoff spot and helped its cause in the District 15-5A standings by bouncing back from a loss to Hallsville Tuesday with wins over Longview and Mount Pleasant, which had been tied with Hallsville for the league lead. The Lady Tigers are open today and play at Marshall Friday to close out the regular season.

The Tigers fell to undefeated Mount Pleasant on Saturday, giving THS its fifth straight loss in district play. Texas High was eliminated from the playoffs with the loss. The Tigers host Marshall Friday before the final week of the regular season next week.

Arkansas High’s boys stumbled in their Conference 6A/5A games with El Dorado today and Hot Springs Lakeside Friday, losing by a combined three points. The Razorbacks are 2-2 in conference play and 9-2 overall. AHS is third in the conference standings, trailing El Dorado and Hot Springs Lakeside.

Arkansas High’s girls fell to El Dorado Tuesday and Hot Springs Lakeside Friday, bringing their Conference 6A/5A record to 0-3 and their overall record to 3-8.

The Hogs host Lake Hamilton today and Pine

Bluff Friday at Razorback Gym.

Liberty-Eylau’s boys improved to 1-8 overall and 1-3 in District 15-4A play with a 52-32 win over Pittsburg Tuesday.

The Leopards host North Lamar today at the Rader Dome and will travel across town to Pleasant Grove on Friday. The Leopards are in fifth place in the district standings.

Liberty-Eylau’s girls are in first place in the District 15-4A standings with wins over Paris Tuesday and Gilmer Friday. L-E is 5-1 in district play and 17-6 overall.

The Lady Leopards will travel to North Lamar today and will host Pleasant Grove at the Rader Dome on Friday.

Pleasant Grove’s boys remained undefeated in District 15-4A with a 60-48 victory over Paris on Friday.

The Hawks (11-5, 4-0) are at the top of the district standings and host rival Pittsburg today at 6 p.m. at Hawk Gym. This is the first meeting for the teams this season.

Pleasant Grove’s young girls continue to struggle as they lost to Paris, 50-33, in a District 15-4A game. The Lady Hawks continue to look for their first district win and are 0-6.

Perhaps the best chance for a Pleasant Grove girls victory is today as they travel to Pittsburg. In the first meeting, the Lady Hawks were narrowly edged by the Lady Pirates, 57-56, when a last-second shot fell short.
