Engineer to update Act 537 plan
The Newtown Borough Council on Oct. 10 voted to hire the engineering firm of Gannett cleming to assist the borough in updating its Act 53T sewage facilities plan. The engineering firm will be paid $13,000 to do the work. “It’s something we have to do and at a cost of $13,000 it’s a reasonable price,” said Council President Bob Walker. “This is a big job,” said Walker. “This is something we have to do.” The state Department of Environmental Protection is requiring the borough, along with 12 other municipalities, to begin work immediately on updating their Act 53T plans. Act 53T plans document existing usage and project future needs. The borough’s plan was last updated in 1993 in conjunction with the township.
