En­gi­neer to up­date Act 537 plan

The New­town Bor­ough Coun­cil on Oct. 10 voted to hire the engi­neer­ing firm of Gan­nett clem­ing to as­sist the bor­ough in up­dat­ing its Act 53T sewage fa­cil­i­ties plan. The engi­neer­ing firm will be paid $13,000 to do the work. “It’s some­thing we have to do and at a cost of $13,000 it’s a rea­son­able price,” said Coun­cil Pres­i­dent Bob Walker. “This is a big job,” said Walker. “This is some­thing we have to do.” The state Depart­ment of En­vi­ron­men­tal Pro­tec­tion is re­quir­ing the bor­ough, along with 12 other mu­nic­i­pal­i­ties, to be­gin work im­me­di­ately on up­dat­ing their Act 53T plans. Act 53T plans doc­u­ment ex­ist­ing us­age and project fu­ture needs. The bor­ough’s plan was last updated in 1993 in con­junc­tion with the town­ship.
