Join the Friends for a ‘Triple Play Walk’

The Advance of Bucks County - - YARDLEY-MORRISVILLE AREA -

MORRISsILLE - The criends of the Delaware Canal will host a ‘Triple Play Walk’ on Saturday, July 20. The walk will include a breezy stroll along the top of Morrisville’s Delaware River dike, a short trek on the canal towpath and a guided tour of historic Summerseat. The 2-1/2-mile, round trip will begin at 2 p.m. at the parking area across the street from the Actors’ NET of Bucks County Theatre, 63R North Delmorr Avenue in Morrisville.

The walk will begin on the river dike near the calls of the Delaware River, which give Morrisville the distinction of being one of the earliest settlements in Bucks County. crom a 1624 Dutch West India Company trading post, the area developed into a town that experienced a growth spurt in the 1830’s when the Delaware Canal opened for business. Walkers will see how the Canal brought prosperity to Morrisville as they follow the Canal towpath through town. Then they will head uphill for a docentled tour of Summerseat, a stately Georgian mansion that was home to three men who signed both the Declaration of Independence and the US Constitution. In addition to having illustrious owners, Summerseat has quirky history that includes serving both as a prison and a basketball court. It is preserved today by the Historic Morrisville Society.

The “Triple Play Walk” is free. Cool beverages and sweet treats will be offered. Donations are always welcome.
