His­toric church opens its doors

The His­toric Pres­by­te­rian Church, its gar­dens, and ceme­tery on Sy­camore St. in New­town will be open to the pub­lic for free guided tours this sum­mer. The church will be open Sun­day af­ter­noons July 14 and 28, Au­gust 11 and Septem­ber 8 from 1 to 3 p.m. All are wel­come. The struc­ture dates back to 1769. It has a long and in­ter­est­ing his­tory in­clud­ing its use by Gen­eral Ge­orge Wash­ing­ton af­ter the Bat­tle of Tren­ton. The church was re­cently shown in the TV se­ries “Who Do You Think You Are” fea­tur­ing Rob Low and his search for his an­ces­tors.
