New­town Bor­ough out­slugs Town­ship

Buck­sLo­calS­ports Edi­tor New­town Bor­ough out­slugged New­town Town­ship July 6 in the an­nual soft­ball war be­tween the bor­ough and the town­ship. A 26-10 tri­umph fa­vored the bor­ough with win­ning pitcher Chuck Ma­chion help­ing to end a three-year drought for his team.

Brian McCoy, Mike Logi­naw and Josiah Buc­cio hit home runs while Bernie Sauer hit two for the bor- ough in a game that took SODFH RQ WKH fiHOG EHKLQG New­town Mid­dle School. Joe Lovi was a vac­uum at third base for the bor­ough DQG WKH RuW­fiHOG FKDsHG down al­most ev­ery long ball hit its way, ac­cord­ing to Ma­chion.

New­town Town­ship Su­per­vi­sor Matt Bench­ener crushed a mon­ster home run for his team in the duel that was all part of New­town’s First Fourth ac­tiv­i­ties.

In ad­di­tion to Ma­chion, Sauer and Lovi, play­ers suit­ing up for the bor­ough in­cluded McCoy, Logi­naw, Buc­cio, Joe White, Bob King and Brian Ma­chion.

In ad­di­tion to Bench­ener, play­ers suit­ing up for the town­ship in­cluded Mike Gal­lagher, Mick Petrucci, Ryan Gal­lagher, Kurt Fer­gu­son, Joe Camp, Paul Bench­ener, Howard Bid­dulph, Tim Potero and Dave Green­plate.

The town­ship won 22-14 in 2012 and 21-7 in 2011.

The Penns­bury Gems 16/18U Black fast-pitch travel soft­ball team won tour­na­ments on suc­ces­sive week­ends the last two weeks in June.
