Newtown Borough outslugs Township
BucksLocalSports Editor Newtown Borough outslugged Newtown Township July 6 in the annual softball war between the borough and the township. A 26-10 triumph favored the borough with winning pitcher Chuck Machion helping to end a three-year drought for his team.
Brian McCoy, Mike Loginaw and Josiah Buccio hit home runs while Bernie Sauer hit two for the bor- ough in a game that took SODFH RQ WKH fiHOG EHKLQG Newtown Middle School. Joe Lovi was a vacuum at third base for the borough DQG WKH RuWfiHOG FKDsHG down almost every long ball hit its way, according to Machion.
Newtown Township Supervisor Matt Benchener crushed a monster home run for his team in the duel that was all part of Newtown’s First Fourth activities.
In addition to Machion, Sauer and Lovi, players suiting up for the borough included McCoy, Loginaw, Buccio, Joe White, Bob King and Brian Machion.
In addition to Benchener, players suiting up for the township included Mike Gallagher, Mick Petrucci, Ryan Gallagher, Kurt Ferguson, Joe Camp, Paul Benchener, Howard Biddulph, Tim Potero and Dave Greenplate.
The township won 22-14 in 2012 and 21-7 in 2011.
The Pennsbury Gems 16/18U Black fast-pitch travel softball team won tournaments on successive weekends the last two weeks in June.
