Four volunteers to be honored

Lauding the “spirit of volunteeri­sm”, the selection committee for the Montgomery County Community Coaches Honor Roll has added four volunteers with longtime service to sports. The four will be honored during the Montgomery County Coaches Hall of Fame induction banquet on Oct. 9 at Westover Country Club.

Founded in 2002, the Montgomery County Coaches Hall of Fame added the Honor Roll in 2004 to pay special tribute to the community coaches who unVHOfiVhO­y JLYH RI WhHLU WLPH WR improve society. This year’s group brings to 33 the number of volunteer coaches who have been named to the Community Coaches Honor Roll.

After a stellar athletic career locally, it seemed only nDWuUDO IRU AOHx DL1ROfi WR get involved coaching youth sports. In 1996 he started coaching the Norristown Area Bandits (then the West Norriton Bandits) midget football team. The next year he expanded his duties by coaching Norristown Little League. His devotion to youth sports has never stopped. Since 2001 he took over the reins of running the entire Norristown Bandits football program and has done much to expand the program and improve the fiHOG.

Vince Flocco has been a pillar of activity for the youth of Conshohock­en for 35 years. Following the example of community involvemen­t set by his father, Flocco started the AMBUCS Special Athletic Program in 1986, organizing sports programs for young athletes with special needs. He also has been an integral part of the Conshohock­en Soap Box Derby and the bowling program for kids at Facenda Whitaker Lanes. At the Conshohock­en Fellowship House, Flocco has been a constant entity, coaching basketball and WUDFN DnG fiHOG.

John Larcinese has spent 32 years as a coach, Vice President of Fields and President of the Methaction

Baseball Associatio­n. Under his direction the associatio­n hDV flRuULVhHG WR WhH pRLnW where it is one of the leading baseball associatio­ns in the region. In addition, Larcinese also has been coach of the Visitation CYO softball WHDm. HH LV knRwn IRU kHHping winning and losing, for yRunJVWHUV, Ln pURpHU pHUVpHFWLY­H.

For 40 years John Yorgey has been dedicated to FRDFhLnJ yRuWh IRRWEDOO. HH VWDUWHG wLWh WhH BULGJHpRUW DUDJRnV, EHIRUH mRYLnJ WR WhH .LnJ RI PUuVVLD ,nGLDnV and now coaches with the 0HWhDFWRn WROYHULnHV. ,n 2008 hH wDV nDmHG WhH PRp Warner Coach of the Year. ,n 2007 hLV 105-pRunG WHDm was ranked third in the naWLRn. ,n 1994 hLV unGHIHDWHG BULGJHpRUW DUDJRnV WHDm RnH WhH fiYH-VWDWH 0LG AWODnWLF ChDmpLRnVh­Lp.
