Family lifts spirits of former first lady Barbara Bush
One day after the Bush family announced that Barbara Bush was in failing health, her granddaughter said the former first lady is in “great spirits.”
“She is the best grandma anybody could have,” Jenna Bush Hager said on the “Today” show. “She’s in great spirits, and she’s a fighter, she’s an enforcer.”
Bush, the matriarch of the political family, has declined further medical treatment for a life-threatening illness. Hager said her grandmother was with her grandfather, former president George H.W. Bush, “the man she’s loved for over 73 years.”
“They are surrounded by family,” she said. “I think the fact that they’re together in this and he still says, ‘I love you, Barbie,’ every night is pretty remarkable.”
