Rita Coolidge

- — Randy Cordova

The sultry-voiced singer re-emerged this year with the rootsy “Safe in the Arms of Time,” a delightfully atmospheric disc that recalls Coolidge’s great recordings from the early ‘70s. In terms of style and content, it moves her away from the adult contemporary gloss of her smash “(Your Love Has Lifted Me) Higher and Higher” and closer to the sweet Southern soul found on 1971’s “The Lady’s Not For Sale” and 1972’s “Nice Feelin’.”

Details: 7:30 p.m. Friday, July 13. Musical Instrument Museum, 4725 E. Mayo Blvd., Phoenix. $45-$60. 480-478-6000, themim.org.
