MISSION, Kan. – A fire that destroyed an annex building of the First Baptist Church in Mission has been ruled an accident by investigators, and there will be no criminal investigation, the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives said Friday. Firefighters were called Thursday night after smoke and flames were reported. When they arrived, flames had broken through the building’s roof, which later collapsed. The main building also had smoke damage on the second floor and water damage on the first floor.

A woman was found dead after Phoenix firefighters extinguished a car fire at a crash near Seventh Avenue and Mission Lane early Saturday morning, according to officials.

Phoenix police and fire responded to a report of a collision and car fire at about 2:30 a.m. Saturday and found a car on fire had crashed into a commercial building and at least one woman was dead, police said.

The woman has not been identified, according to Sgt. Mercedes Fortune, a spokesperson for Phoenix police.

Witnesses told police that the car was speeding on Seventh Avenue when it crashed into the building, according to Fortune. No firefighters were injured and the fire did not spread into the building, according to officials.
