West Georgia’s 17-game home losing streak to Valdosta State was finally snapped with a decisive 49-28 win.

Going into Week 6 last season, the Wolves were 5-0 and lost to the Blazers. On Saturday, the team maintained its perfect record and improved to 6-0 (2-0), the school’s best start since 2000.

Valdosta State’s second consecutive loss brings their record to 3-2 on the season and 0-2 in the Gulf South Conference.

West Georgia continues to dominate opponents with lopsided offensive stats. The Wolves averaged 7.8 yards per play and gained 474 yards compared with the Blazers’ 4.4 yards per play and 305 total yards.

West Georgia quarterback Dallas Dickey was 16-of-23 passing for 237 yards. Running back LaMarcus Franks led the team in rushing with 174 yards and contributed to the passing game with a 28-yard touchdown. Five different Wolves receivers caught touchdown passes.

At the end of the first half the Blazers trailed only 25-21, but their offense was stifled for the rest of the game.

Alex Armah, Gabe Free- man and Mario Chapman led the Wolves defense with eight tackles apiece.

The second half started miserably for the Valdosta State, with two interceptions that West Georgia turned into touchdowns.

The Blazers found the end zone again only in the fourth quarter after the Wolves owned the third quarter with three consecutive scoring drives.

The 28 points Valdosta State scored is the highest total an opponent has earned against West Georgia this season.

The highlight of the game for Valdosta State was Cedric O’Neal’s 37th career rushing touchdown, which made him the school’s all-time leader. O’Neal finished the game with 107 yards and two touchdowns.

West Georgia’s next attempt to remain perfect will be Saturday against Delta State in Cleveland, Miss.

Valdosta State will play host to Mississippi College on Saturday.
