Moore misses no-hitter by 1 out

Dodgers’ Seager spoils history by Giants pitcher.

-

The Dodgers were down to their final out with Matt Moore on the verge of throwing the Giants’ first no-hitter against them in more than 100 years.

Corey Seager spoiled the attempt with a bloop single to right with two outs in the ninth in Los Angeles’ 4-0 loss to San Francisco on Thursday night.

Seager’s hit sent the sellout crowd of 53,297 into a raucous celebration. That clutch hit came on his bobblehead night.

And Moore’s try ended on his 133rd pitch.

Moore just smiled after Seager’s hit.

“Giving up a base hit right there is a part of the game,” Moore said. “It was a fun ride all the way up until that point ... there’s not a lot to be angry about. I think the smile just kind of came out.”

Moore struck out seven, walked three and gave up one hit in 82/3 innings.

Rangers: Reliever Jeremy Jeffress, 28, was placed on the restricted list following his Friday morning arrest on a drunken driving charge in Dallas. While there was no timetable for his return, GM Jon Daniels said Jeffress might be away only a day. MLB is looking into the arrest of the pitcher who was suspended twice as a minor leaguer for violating drug rules.

■ Carlos Gomez homered Thursday night in his first at-bat for Texas. “The first home run of my career that I feel that I want to cry,” said the two-time All-Star outfielder, 30, who hit .210 this season with the Astros before being given his unconditional release. He signed a minor league deal with the Rangers and played three games at Triple-A before being called up.

Pirates: Starling Marte stole his 43rd base of the season Thursday. The last Pirate with more than 42 steals in a season was Tony Womack, who had 58 in 1998.

Orioles: Reliever T.J. McFarland (left knee) was reinstated from the 15-day disabled list and right-hander Logan Ondrusek was designated for assignment.

Twins: Right-hander Alex Wimmers was called up from Triple-A Rochester, promoting their 2010 first-round draft pick to the majors for the first time.

Royals: Kansas City’s bullpen pitched four scoreless innings Thursday to push its franchise-record scoreless streak to 382/3 innings — the best in the majors since 2002-03 when San Francisco tossed 391/3 straight.
