Radwanska makes Connecticut final
Top-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska breezed through her Connecticut Open semifinal in New Haven, routing two-time defending champion Petra Kvitova 6-1, 6-1.
Radwanska, who will be seeded fourth next week in the U.S. Open, will face the Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina in the final.
The 21-year-old Svitolina ousted Sweden’s Johanna Larsson 6-4, 6-2.
Winston-Salem (N.C.) Open: Roberto Bautista Agut advanced to the final, beating Viktor Troicki 7-5, 6-7 (2), 6-2.
The second-seeded Agut will face fellow Spaniard Pablo Carreno Busta, a 6-4, 7-6 (5) winner over Australia’s John Millman in the second semifinal.
U.S. Open: American Sloane Stephens, a 2013 quarterfinalist at Flushing Meadows, has withdrawn because of a right foot injury.
The announcement means Olympic gold medalist Monica Puig becomes the 32nd and final women’s seed, as Stephens had been seeded 24th.
