Jail to receive $505K in upgrades

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution - - COUNTY BY COUNTY - CAROLYN CUNNINGHAM FOR THE AJC

The Cobb County jail, known as the Adult Detention Center, will receive $505,465 in improvements.

The Cobb County Board of Commissioners voted 5-0 Oct. 10 in favor of these requests from Cobb Sheriff Neil Warren:

■ $388,682 by Johnson Control Inc. to replace the Air Handling Unit in O Pod that is 20 years old and “has exceeded end-oflife expectancy,” according to Warren.

■ $93,863 by Morse Watchmans, Inc. to buy Morse Watchman’s KeyBank / KeyWatcher key inventory system upgrades. The present computerized inventory system, at nine years old, is in need of updates to the mechanical and software components. For better accountability, the new system will be a network of electronic vaults at strategic locations within the ADC, providing for secure storage of the keys and the ongoing inventory of which keys have been checked out by which personnel.

■ $22,920 by Dvorson’s Food Service Equipment Inc. to replace three kitchen line tables for meal preparation. The present three stainless steel tables are at least seven years old that are used to prepare 6,000 meals daily for all of the inmates. The substructure framing on the tables has deteriorated due to the constant cleaning after each meal preparation to comply with established cleanliness and inspection standards, Warren added.

Funding is from the 2016 Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax program.
