Historical Society denied free access
A request by the Kennesaw Historical Society to use the city’s Historic Depot for free next year was denied 1-3-1 Nov. 6 by the Kennesaw City Council.
Councilman James “Doc” Eaton voted in favor. Opposed were Councilwoman Yvette M. A. Daniel and Councilmen Jimmy Dickens and Nimesh Patel. Recusing himself and leaving the room was Councilman Jim Sebastian since he said he is an officer of the society.
City Attorney Randall Bentley explained that groups “not connected with the city have to pay the fair market value to be legal.” “Even nonprofits still have to pay,” Bentley added.
Next year instead of paying the total rental fee of $550, the society wanted to meet for free during regular open museum hours on March 3, June 16, Aug. 11, Sept. 15 and Oct. 13.
