Man slain while checking tires

Atlanta police are investigating a Saturday incident in which a man checking his tires for flats was shot and killed in southeast Atlanta.

Justin Edwards, 33, of Decatur, was in the 600 block of Memorial Drive SE, according to the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s office. When officers called to the scene arrived about 11:20 p.m., they found Edwards shot multiple times in a parking lot, Officer Lisa Bender said.

He was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he later died.

Witnesses told police Edwards pulled over into the parking lot to check on his rear tires, which were both flat, Bender said.

“While checking on the tires, an unknown suspect approached and shot the victim,” Bender said.
