City plans tax hearings

Acworth residents are invited to three public hearings on the millage rate of 7.6 that has been the same since at least 2013.

However, according to Georgia law, these hearings must be held since the millage rate will require an increase in property taxes by 6.35 percent.

These hearings will be held at 6:30 p.m. today and at 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. July 19 in the Council Chambers, Acworth City Hall, 4415 Senator Russell Ave., Acworth.

The millage rate is expected to be adopted by the Acworth Board of Aldermen, following the last public hearing.

T he pro posed a nnual tax increase for a house with a fair market value of $175,000 will be around $31.78 and, for nonhomeste­ad property with a fair market value of $325,000, about $59.02, according to a city statement.
