County OKs $300K for re­spon­der ve­hi­cles, gear

The Chero­kee County Board of Com­mis­sion­ers has ap­proved spend­ing more than $300,000 on ve­hi­cles and equip­ment for the Sher­iff ’s Of­fice and Fire & Emer­gency Ser­vices.

For the Sher­iff ’s Of­fice, com­mis­sion­ers ap­proved the $177,615 pur­chase of four Ford Ex­plor­ers, as well as a Ford Tran­sit 350 15-pas­sen­ger van with elec­tronic wheel­chair lift to trans­port pris­on­ers. Krause Fam­ily Ford was the low bid­der for the Ex­plor­ers, and Bran­nen Mo­tor Co., for the Tran­sit van, ac­cord­ing to a staff re­port to com­mis­sion­ers.

Com­mis­sion­ers also ap­proved spend­ing $103,839 to buy a 15-pas­sen­ger van for the Fire Train­ing Di­vi­sion, a Tran­sit Con­nect van for Fire Pre­ven­tion, and two Tran­sit Con­nect vans for Fire Depart­ment IT po­si­tions. King Ford was the low bid­der on all four ve­hi­cles, staff said.

Also, the county will spend $34,852 to buy ex­tri­ca­tion equip­ment for Fire & Emer­gency Ser­vices from Ge­or­gia Fire and Res­cue; this is a sole-source pur­chase, staff said. The gear is needed on En­gine 24 to be used on the I-575 North/South Ex­press Lanes.
