Bathrooms for transgender students
I have received many e-mails in opposition to President Barack Obama’s decision forcing public schools to allow transgender students to use the bathrooms which they say matches their gender identity.
Let me state that I do not approve of this decision by our President. The government should not be regulating our bathrooms and forcing our schools to take action but if this mandate is not forced, we could lose federal funding.
Do we want men, transgender or not, inside the women’s restroom? We have all heard the fears about a child predator dressing up as a woman to gain access into the women’s bathroom. In addition, adolescence is a challenging time for all kids and we don’t need to complicate life more by allowing boys in the girls’ locker room.
Transgenders should be treated fairly and given rights, but is it worth the safety concern to the rest of the population? Only .3 percent of the population is transgender, but this law also affects the other 99.7 percent of the population.
A Rasmussen Reports poll last week reported finds that 51 percent of the countr y opposes allowing transgender students to use the bathrooms of the opposite sex. Is President Obama listening to the will of the people or is he looking for political gain?
President Obama is wrong by forcing schools to allow transgenders in the bathroom of the op- posite sex and we must stand up as a nation to fight this ridiculous mandate. Del. Bob Long 6th District
