3rd Annual Chili Cook-Off turns up the heat
Spice it up! On Sunday, February 19, Barcocina in Fell’s Point will be welcoming the area’s best chefs for their annual Chili Cook-Off.
“It’s a way for us to bring the neighborhood together and give the locals something fun to do, it’s really good for the area,” said Mike Donovan, the general manager at Barocinca.
In its 3rd year, the event has gathered quite a following, said Donovan. Every year, people from all over Baltimore City and Baltimore County show up to try the new and unique chili recipes from the talented chefs behind some of the area’s favorite local joints, like The Point in Fells and Bond Street Social.
More than showing off their culinary chops, Donovan the event also gives plenty of exposure to the area’s restaurants and can attract new customers to their businesses. “The goal is to get the best chili we can.” While most of the chili concocters put together a traditional beef and bean chili, Donovan said some chefs use the opportunity to try out different flavor combinations and ingredients.
“They’ll do anything from chorizo to goat chili, there’s definitely some chefs that get creative and have fun with it.”
For $5, you get an unlimited number of taste tests to sample every chili and then vote for your favorite. The ticket also includes discounted drink, cocktail, and foodspecials, and discounted food specials at Barcocina.
The chefs will have from 1-3 p.m. to prepare their chili and the sampling period will be open from 3-5 p.m. To purchase tickets, visit www.eventbrite.com/e/3rdannual-chili-cook-off-tickets-31330245608
