On Saturday, September 15, leash up your favorite four-legged friend and head to the Baltimore Humane Society (BHS)’s Annual DogFest! DogFest is the Humane Society’s largest fundraiser and community event of the year, featuring a one-mile charity walk, games, contests, dog swimming, demos, food, and dogs and cats available for adoption.

New this year, the Kids Kennel will include crafts, a moon bounce, the Irvine Nature Center Animal Program, Pet BINGO, temporary tattoos, CrossFit and more. Kids and adults can test their skills on the 20-foot climbing wall, and Charm City Helicopter Rides will be offering helicopter rides with a portion of ride sales going to BHS.

BHS operates a no-kill shelter on 365 acres in Reisterstown, which provides a temporary home, safe refuge, and care for unwanted and homeless animals. Since its founding in 1927, BHS has found devoted forever homes for hundreds of thousands of animals, as well as provided low-cost spay/neuter and vaccination services to the community in its Veterinary Center.

BHS also houses a pet memorial park and offers free pet loss group and individual counseling to the public. The remaining 343 acres of the BHS campus serve as a protected wildlife sanctuary.

Additional services provided by BHS include humane education programs to City and County schools, libraries, and youth groups, low-cost vaccination and microchip clinics, and several other programs to grow humane treatment of animals in our community.

The DogFest Walk helps raise funds to benefit BHS while guests tour the grounds. Bring your pet, your friends, and your family and enjoy a one-mile trail walk through BHS’s 365-acre wildlife sanctuary. Prizes will be awarded to top fundraisers.

Last year, DogFest welcomed more than 5,000 animal lovers. Games will be ongoing throughout the day. Dogs will have a great time ten pin bowling, playing hide and seek, creating a paw painting, running agility courses, and much more. You can also enter your pup in one of the many contests, including Best Kisser, Best Costume, Best Tail Wagger,

and Owner/Pet Lookalike. There will be prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners for all contests.

The Shelter Dog Showcase will take place in the contest ring at 10:30 am and again at 3:30 pm. The shelter dogs will be dressed to the nines, showing off their best tricks and sporting their cutest costumes for all to see.

DogFest demos include the Dept. of Public Safety & Corrections Services K-9 Unit CDS Detection Dogs and Oriole Dog Training Club Flyball.
