Chil­dren’s Play­house of Mary­land presents Cole Porter’s ‘Any­thing Goes’

The Chil­dren’s Play­house of Mary­land, in res­i­dence at the Com­mu­nity Col­lege of Bal­ti­more County, Es­sex cam­pus-equally so, if the, proudly presents the mu­si­cal Any­thing Goes (Beau­mont Ver­sion), fea­tur­ing more than 35 stu­dent ac­tors from Bal­ti­more City, Bal­ti­more County and Har­ford County.

Mu­sic and lyrics are by Cole Porter; the pro­duc­tion is based on a book by Guy Bolton and P.G. Wode­house, Howard Lind­sey and Russell Crouse; new book by Ti­mothy Crouse and John Wei­d­man.

In the CPM pro­duc­tion, Si­mon Gusso of Bel Air ap­pears as Billy Crocker, with Hannah Sikes of Halethorpe as Reno Sweeny and Heidi Thiessen of Owings Mills as Hope Har­court. Liz Boyer Hun­ni­cutt di­rects this pro­duc­tion; Charlotte Evans is the mu­sic direc­tor; Amanda Poxon is the chore­og­ra­pher.

Any­thing Goes com­bines the clas­sic “boy meets girl” story with ship­board ro­mance and crim­i­nal hi­jinks. On this cruise, Boy loves Girl who is about to marry some­one else, and Boy gets Girl #2 to help him get her back. Peo­ple are fall­ing in and out of love amidst the FBI pur­su­ing Pub­lic En­emy #1. Hi­lar­i­ous com­pli­ca­tions en­sue.

Com­plete with rous­ing tap num­bers and well-known hit tunes like “I Get a Kick Out Of You,” “All Through the Night,” and “It’s DeLovely,” Any­thing Goes is a must­see for the whole fam­ily.

The r un of the show in the CCBC Es­sex Ad­min­is­tra­tion Build­ing Lec­ture Hall (near Park­ing Lot 4) will be Septem­ber 15, 16, 22, 23, 29 and 30 at 1 p.m., with an ad­di­tional 7 p.m. show on Satur­day, Septem­ber 22. There will be a spe­cial sen­sory-friendly per­for­mance at 4:30 p.m. Satur­day, Septem­ber 29.

Tick­ets for the seven shows in the run are $10 each and can be or­dered through the CCBC Box Of­fice or on­line. Tick­ets will also be avail­able at the door, space per­mit­ting. Ad­vance pur­chase is rec­om­mended.
