Baltimore performer stars as Elmo in Sesame Street Live!
KJ Williams will return to Lyric Opera House
Every day is a sunny day for KJ Williams, star of Sesame Street Live! Let’s Party!, Williams, who was born and raised in Baltimore, will return home Friday & Saturday, November 16 & 17 to star as Elmo for three performances at the Lyric Opera House.
Sesame Street Live! Let’s Party! is a brand new show featuring favorite Sesame Street pals Elmo, Abby Cadabby, Big Bird and more in a brand-new sensory adventure live on stage. Everyone is invited to take part in the sunniest and funniest street celebration in Feld Entertainment’s first production in partnership Sesame Workshop.
From the moment the curtain rises, parents and children alike will be on their feet dancing along to a pop-infused soundtrack with new Sesame Street friends and live emcees Casey and Caleb. Planning a party isn’t easy when everybody has a different idea of fun, but with some help from the audience, it becomes the ultimate reflection of what friendship plus teamwork can accomplish.
Party guests will sing along to new and familiar songs, like “I Love Trash” and “C is for Cookie,” with Oscar the Grouch and Cookie Monster; dance to the beat with Elmo; explore a wintry wonderland when Abby Cadabby’s magic goes awry; take flight with Big Bird to learn about some of his fabulous feathered friends; and discover new cultures in an interactive Spanish lesson with Rosita.
“You definitely hear it when Elmo makes his entrance. Many of the parents in the audience grew up in the early 80s, so they all knew Elmo. These days, the parents and the kids are both Elmo fans,” said Williams, who attended Owings Mills High School and took acting and dance classes at CCBC Essex.
“I watched a lot of Sesame Street growing up. They always had musical guests and every day it was a different celebrity. That was my favorite part of the show,” he said.
This is the third time Williams has performed at The Lyric, and he is looking forward to all his family and friends coming to the performances. Prior to working with Feld, Williams was a performer at Walt Disney World from 20052015, dancing in multiple shows and parades. Through Disney he found Feld Entertainment, which produces several Disney shows.
“This is a highly interactive, visually driven show. It will teach you to grow smarter, stronger, and kinder,” he said of Sesame Street Live! Let’s Party!, created by Sesame Workshop and Feld Entertainment.
Sesame Workshop is the nonprofit media and educational organization behind Sesame Street, the pioneering television show that has been reaching and teaching children since 1969. Today, Sesame Workshop is an innovative force for change, with a mission to help kids everywhere grow “smarter, stronger, and kinder,” as Williams said.
Williams’ favorite thing about the show is the magic moment when each character makes their entrance. He also loves when it’s time to sing the Sesame Street theme song.
“The entire audience is singing and they are loud and happy. It brightens up the whole stage,” said Williams.
A unique, up-close-and-personal pre-show experience will be offered at an additional charge prior to select performances, allowing families the opportunity to tour the on-stage neighborhood of their favorite, furry friends before they arrive for the main show. The fun doesn’t end there. A variety of interactive activities give children the chance to create, discover and learn as they help decorate for the upcoming party. Sesame Street Live! Let’s Party!
