UBS WMA Bol­sters Its Muni Ranks

UBS Wealth Man­age­ment Amer­i­cas started to fill open­ings in its newly re­vived pub­lic fi­nance busi­ness, with 19 em­ploy­ees join­ing the firm.

The hires in­clude 13 in the New York City of­fice, four in Chicago, one in Bal­ti­more, and one in San An­to­nio.

“We are con­tin­u­ing to strengthen our Pub­lic Fi­nance ca­pa­bil­i­ties to more holis­ti­cally serve our high net worth and ul­tra-high net worth clients’ liq­uid­ity, longevity and legacy goals,” said Peter Hill, head of pub­lic fi­nance for UBS, in an in­ter­nal memo Wed­nes­day. “Crit­i­cal to our suc­cess will be the tal­ent and ex­per­tise of our team mem­bers who will be strate­gi­cally lo­cated across our mar­kets to pro­vide cov­er­age and ex­per­tise where it makes sense for our ad­vi­sors and clients.”

The fol­low­ing pro­fes­sion­als have joined or will be join­ing WMA Pub­lic Fi­nance in the New York of­fice:

Ed Tishel­man joins as man­ag­ing di­rec­tor and head of pub­lic fi­nance strate­gies. He will co­or­di­nate banking pitches and RFP re­sponses with tailor-made mar­ket and mar­ket­ing strate­gies. Tish­le­man has broad

in­dus­try ex­pe­ri­ence in­clud­ing 16 years as a mu­nic­i­pal bond trader, man­ag­ing sales and un­der­writ­ing at J.P. Morgan, lead­ing un­der­writ­ing at Bank of Amer­ica, run­ning the mu­nic­i­pal fi­nance group at TD Se­cu­ri­ties and as a man­ag­ing di­rec­tor at the mu­nic­i­pal ad­vi­sory firm Mo­hanty Gargiulo.

Michael Lex­ton will be join­ing as a man­ag­ing di­rec­tor and the head of the trans­porta­tion group. He comes to UBS from RBC where he was the head of the trans­porta­tion group. His re­spon­si­bil­i­ties in­cluded over­sight of tra­di­tional fi­nanc­ing for all modes of trans­porta­tion and the de­vel­op­ment of pub­lic-pri­vate part­ner­ship fi­nanc­ings. Prior to this he was in the pub­lic fi­nance busi­ness at J.P. Morgan, Bear Stearns, and Mer­rill Lynch.

Eric Golyn­sky come to UBS as an ex­ec­u­tive di­rec­tor in the firm’s trans­porta­tion fi­nance group and will pro­vide in­vest­ment banking ser­vices to mu­nic­i­pal trans­porta­tion and in­fra­struc­ture clients na­tion­ally. He brings over 12 years of ded­i­cated trans­porta­tion fi­nance ex­pe­ri­ence across all modes, se­nior man­ag­ing over $15 bil­lion of fi­nanc­ings across the coun­try. He also helps lead busi­ness de­vel­op­ment with project spon­sors and de­vel­op­ers to de­liver P3 fi­nanc­ing so­lu­tions. He is re­join­ing UBS, where he be­gan his ca­reer in pub­lic fi­nance, af­ter spend­ing nine years at BAML, Siebert Brand­ford Shank and PNC Cap­i­tal Mar­kets.

Giles Ni­chol­son will be join­ing as ex­ec­u­tive di­rec­tor and lead quan­ti­ta­tive banker. He was most re­cently at Wells Fargo in the pub­lic fi­nance di­vi­sion and has also worked at Bar­clays, Lehman Broth­ers and J.P. Morgan.

Jake Plun­kett joins as an ex­ec­u­tive di­rec­tor and north­east re­gional banker. He most re­cently worked at New York Life and prior to that he worked at nu­mer­ous firms in­clud­ing Cad­wyn Point Part­ners as the se­nior man­ag­ing di­rec­tor head­ing up the cap­i­tal mar­kets group; at Ray­mond James as man­ag­ing di­rec­tor & head of the short term prod­ucts group and co-head of the North­east pub­lic fi­nance group; and as a VP at Gold­man Sachs in the New York State banking group.

Mark Price joins as an ex­ec­u­tive di­rec­tor and north­east re­gional banker. He most re­cently worked at Loop Cap­i­tal Mar­kets as the head of strate­gic in­fra­struc­ture fi­nance and be­fore that, he worked at var­i­ous other firms in­clud­ing UBS and PaineWeb­ber.

Ti­mothy Veitch joins UBS as an as­so­ciate and is com­ing over J.P. Morgan where he cov­ered some of the largest municipalities in the North­east, along with in­fra­struc­ture and trans­porta­tion is­suers.

Conor Lanz joins the pub­lic fi­nance team as a di­rec­tor within the New York banking team. He is an in­ter­nal trans­fer most re­cently work­ing as chief of staff for Bob McCann, Chair­man UBS Amer­i­cas. Prior to that, he held roles in the WMA and Amer­i­cas COO group, as well as in com­mu­ni­ca­tions & brand­ing.

Amanda Parker joins the firm as a di­rec­tor within the trans­porta­tion group. She be­gan her ca­reer at Siebert Brand­ford Shank & Co. where she fo­cused on the trans­porta­tion in­dus­try within pub­lic fi­nance and she is com­ing over from PNC where she was a trans­porta­tion spe­cial­ist.

Christo­pher Heine joins the firm as a quan­ti­ta­tive as­so­ciate and re­cently grad­u­ated from the United States Naval Academy.

Car­los Vazquez joins the firm as a pub­lic fi­nance an­a­lyst. He be­gan his pub­lic fi­nance ca­reer at J.P. Morgan as an in­vest­ment banking an­a­lyst. He has ad­di­tion­ally worked as a bond fi­nance an­a­lyst at NY State Homes and Com­mu­nity Re­newal. Most re­cently, he worked on fi­nance struc­tur­ing for North­east is­suers at Sa­muel A. Ramirez & Co.

Henry Gads­den joins the team as a pub­lic fi­nance an­a­lyst af­ter com­plet­ing UBS WMA’s 2-year ro­ta­tional grad­u­ate tal­ent pro­gram. As a GTP, he ro­tated through var­i­ous busi­ness ar­eas of the firm, in­clud­ing fixed in­come re­search, OTC eq­uity de­riv­a­tives and struc­tured prod­ucts.

Ni­cole Pey joins pub­lic fi­nance as an an­a­lyst, af­ter also com­plet­ing the twoyear UBS WMA GTP pro­gram. As a GTP an­a­lyst, she worked in six dif­fer­ent busi­nesses across WMA in­clud­ing the eq­uity ad­vi­sory group and the chief mar­ket­ing of­fice.

Ad­di­tion­ally, the fol­low­ing in­di­vid­u­als have joined or will join the firm’s Chicago of­fice:

Beth Coolidge is join­ing the firm as man­ag­ing di­rec­tor and head of the Mid­west re­gion, in a move that was an­nounced back on July 26.

Al­li­son Pink has joined the firm as di­rec­tor and re­gional Mid­west banker. She joins from PNC Cap­i­tal Mar­kets where she pro­vided cap­i­tal mar­kets fi­nanc­ing so­lu­tions to large govern­ment and higher ed­u­ca­tion clients lo­cated in Illi­nois, Wis­con­sin, Mis­souri, In­di­ana, and Min­nesota. While at PNC, she and Coolidge served as se­nior man­ag­ing un­der­writer on four trans­ac­tions for the City of Chicago and Chicago Pub­lic Schools to­tal­ing ap­prox­i­mately $1.4 bil­lion in to­tal par.

Lib­erty Zie­gahn joins the firm as a di­rec­tor and re­gional Mid­west banker. She joins from Wil­liam Blair – who re­cently scrapped its muni depart­ment, where she was an in­vest­ment banking VP.

Ni­c­ho­lette Cameron has joined the firm as a pub­lic fi­nance an­a­lyst. She joins from PNC Cap­i­tal Mar­kets and prior to that Fifth Third Se­cu­ri­ties.

Hill also an­nounced that James ‘Jay’ H. Redd, Jr. has joined the firm as man­ag­ing di­rec­tor and re­gional banker north­east. He will be based in Bal­ti­more and is com­ing from Mu­nic­i­pal Re­source Ad­vi­sors, LLC a firm he founded in 2011.

Frank Sánchez-Reed will join the firm as an ex­ec­u­tive di­rec­tor as the head of the south­west banking busi­ness. He will be based in San An­to­nio and has spent his ca­reer in the pub­lic fi­nance arena and most re­cently was a pub­lic fi­nance banker at Morgan Stan­ley.

“We are ex­cited about the ad­di­tion of this strong tal­ent to our busi­ness. We con­tinue to ex­pe­ri­ence height­ened in­ter­est across the re­gions and are con­fi­dent that we are at­tract­ing the best in the in­dus­try,” said Hill.

This is the lat­est in a string of moves that started back in April when Hill left Wells Fargo where he had been since 2009. He then hired An­gelia Schmidt as man­ag­ing di­rec­tor and head of pub­lic fi­nance un­der­writ­ing in June.

UBS Wealth Man­age­ment head of pub­lic fi­nance Peter Hill said the tal­ent and ex­per­tise of the firm’s team will be crit­i­cal to its suc­cess.
