Interim manager hired as search continues
The township has someone at the helm again — at least temporarily.
On Monday, July 11, the township supervisors voted 4-1 to hire Greg Prowant as interim township manager.
Supervisor Andrew Kelly cast the sole dissenting vote, said supervisors’ Chairman Phil Agliano.
Prowant spent many years as manager of Caln Township and prior to that, some may recall, was township manager in Lower Pottsgrove Township.
In a bit of irony, Lower Pottsgrove’s current manager, Ed Wagner, is a former manager of New Hanover Township.
Although an exact pay rate is still being negotiated by the township solicitor, the request
for applicants indicated Prowant’s pay rate cannot exceed $60 per hour, said Agliano.
He said Prowant’s services would not likely exceed 20 hours a week.
Prowant will fill in for former manager Kevin Tobias, who was fired by the supervisors last month without cause.
Tobias had been township manager for 18 months.
Agliano said Prowant “came highly recommended and we didn’t want to spend a lot of time on the interim manager because we want to get started on finding a permanent replacement.”
He said the supervisors have agreed to hire the Meyner Center for Local Government at Lafayette College, a consulting firm used by both Pottstown and West Vincent to identify and recommend new borough and township managers.
“We’re waiting to hear back on how quickly we can set up a meeting,” Agliano said.
