Mitchell, Dierolf score twice in big field hockey win

BOY­ER­TOWN 7, UP­PER MERION1» Han­nah Mitchell and Ash­ley Dierolf each scored pairs of goals to lead the Bears past the Vik­ings in a non-di­vi­sional pair­ing of PAC schools on Sept. 26. Mitchell was also cred­ited with two as­sists. Jen­nifer O’Con­nor (three as­sists), Al­li­son Me­lahn (two as­sists) and Lind­say Flack had solo tal­lies while Ha­ley Gable con­trib­uted six-save goal­tend­ing.

1» Ja­cob Groff’s sec­ond­half goal brought the Bears back from an early deficit to force a tie with the Tigers in their non-league game on Sept. 30.

Fleet­wood’s goal in the first half came from Ma­son Hoare, with Lu­cas Strange on the as­sist.

OWEN J. ROBERTS 4, BOY­ER­TOWN 3 » Matt Pron forced over­time with his unas­sisted goal with 13 sec­onds re­main­ing and later as­sisted Sam Smith for the de­ci­sive goal with 3:44 left in dou­ble over­time to give the Wild­cats a dra­matic PAC Lib­erty win on Sept. 28.

OJR led 1-0 at half­time on a Josh Fon­der goal. The sides traded goals through Boy­er­town’s Ben Ver­meesch and OJR’s Beck­ett Houck be­fore Bears hit the net twice in a 53-sec­ond span through Jimmy Tow­ers and Nick Will­son, go­ing up 3-2 with 13:12 re­main­ing.

0» Kendall Ozorowski and Lau­ren McNi­chol each net­ted a goal for the War­riors in their PAC Lib­erty Di­vi­sion win over the Bears on Sept. 27.

Mag­gie Bor­donaro and Ozorowski added as­sists in the game mov­ing the War­riors to 5-4 in league play. Liz Greene had six saves pre­serv­ing the shutout.

PHOENIXVILLE 279, BOY­ER­TOWN 280 » In a PAC match that went to the sixth spots in the fin­ish­ing or­der, the Phan­toms edged the Bears at Hick­ory Val­ley Golf Club.

The dif­fer­ence for Phoenixville was P.J. Sul­li­van’s 49, one stroke bet­ter than Boy­er­town’s Tyler Spitko. Mark En­gler was the match’s low man, shoot­ing a 42 on the par-36 Pres­i­den­tial course, while Mitchell Schwartz headed Phoenixville with a 44.

BOY­ER­TOWN 228, NOR­RIS­TOWN 244 » Though the Ea­gles boasted the two low­est scores, the Bears checked in with five of the next six to win this PAC match at Hick­ory Val­ley on Sept. 26.

Mark En­gler led Boy­er­town with his round of 40, good for third place be­hind Nor­ris­town’s Caleb Ryan — one un­der par at 35 — and Josh Ryan (37). Brad Fen­ster­maker, Ja­cob But­ler and Tyler Spitko fol­lowed En­gler with their re­spec­tive cards of 45, 46 and 47.

Cross Coun­try

The lo­cal con­tin­gent was led by Owen J. Roberts se­nior Liam Conway and the Spring-Ford boys’ team on Fri­day morn­ing at the Paul Short Run at Le­high Univer­sity.

Conway came in third in the boys’ brown race in 15:08, trail­ing only McDonough School’s Dal­ton Hengst (14:57) and Ne­shaminy’s Rusty Ku­jdych (15:01). The Spring-Ford boys team were cham­pi­ons with 176 points, just ahead of Sale­sianum School (179). Boy­er­town came in 4th (249) and Owen J. Roberts 6th (270).

Other top 50 fin­ish­ers from the area in­cluded Spring-Ford’s Ja­cob McKenna in 19th (15:48), SpringFord’s Zachary Smith in 25th (15:57), Spring-Ford’s John Zaw­is­lak in 34th (16:03), Boy­er­town’s Josh Endy (36th, 16:07), Boy­er­town’s Chris­tian McCombs (38th, 16:09), Owen J. Roberts’ An­drew Malm­strom (41st, 16:11) and Boy­er­town’s Do­minic Der­afelo (47th, 16:13).

1» A sweep of the dou­bles bracket keyed the Bears’ win over the Fal­cons in their PAC match.

Boy­er­town’s sec­ond dou­bles team of Gabby Zaleski and Han­nah Pel­lic­ciotti had the team’s best show­ing, a 6-2, 6-0 win. Pottsgrove’s lone point was scored by Mya Krueger at sec­ond sin­gles.

BOY­ER­TOWN 3, PHOENIXVILLE 1 » Keara Hen­nessey had the big­gest all-round sta­tis­ti­cal out­ing for the Bears in their PAC vic­tory over the Phan­toms on Sept. 26. Boy­er­town scored set wins of 25-15, 25-23 and 2515 around Phoenixville’s 2521 vic­tory in the sec­ond set.

Hen­nesssey had one ace, one kill, 23 as­sists and eight digs to lead the Bears. Rom­ina Broglia added three aces, nine kills and 11 digs while Malu Salin Matos had one ace and six kills.
