Maryan­ski de­liv­ers Bears to walkoff win in sea­son opener

The Boy­er­town soft­ball team saw its four-run lead on Owen J. Roberts evap­o­rate in the fifth in­ning Fri­day, April 6.

The Bears made cer­tain their next lead lasted, though.

Veron­ica Maryan­ski’s walk-off RBI sin­gle in the bot­tom of the sev­enth in­ning gave Boy­er­town at 6-5 vic­tory over OJR at home.

Sec­ond base­man Maryan­ski went 4-for-5 while MacKen­zie Shaner was 3-for-4 with a home run, double and four RBI. Rachel Hart­man went 2-for-4 for Boy­er­town, which built a 5-1 lead af­ter two in­nings.

The Wild­cats’ Rylie Hi­josh went 3-for-4, in­clud­ing a two-run sin­gle in OJR’s four-run fifth.

Base­ball

BOY­ER­TOWN 11, MUH­LEN­BERG 2 » It may have been the first game of the year, but the Boy­er­town base­ball team ap­peared to be in mid-sea­son form Satur­day, March 31.

With Austyn Le­ven­good and Caleb Harrison spark­ing the of­fense, the Bears han­dled Muh­len­berg in a non-con­fer­ence show­ing. They proved par­tic­u­larly op­por­tunis­tic against the host Muhls, scor­ing five un­earned runs in the top of the fifth to erase Muh­len­berg’s ini­tial 2-1 lead.

Le­ven­good was 2-for-4 with three runs scored and three steals, and Harrison was 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs. Mitchell Peers and A.J. Kline each drove in pairs of runs for Boy­er­town, which capped their day with a fiverun sev­enth at-bat.

Drew Hart­man, pitch­ing 2-2/3 in­nings in re­lief of starter Mike Hohlfeld, got the win off his one-hit, three­strike­out per­for­mance. Boy­er­town’s four pitch­ers see­ing ac­tion — Gavin Henderson and Jared Wald­man closed out in re­lief — com­bined to fan nine and limit the Muhls to six hits.

Jake Kuczawa went 2-for-4 with a run scored and Dean Light dou­bled for Muh­len­berg, which sus­tained its first loss of the sea­son.

Girls lacrosse

PERKIOMEN VAL­LEY 11, BOY­ER­TOWN 10, OT » Tak­ing their PAC Lib­erty Divi­sion game be­yond reg­u­la­tion, the Vik­ings edged the Bears on the strength of Kat Kel­ley’s over­time goal on April 4.

Paige Tyson had six goals to lead PV, Ri­ley McGet­ti­gan added a hat trick and Kelly and Tori Bruno chipped in with two apiece. Sydney Fox, Ash­ley Dierolf and Amanda Di­achyn­sky each scored pairs of goals to lead Boy­er­town.

Boys track

PERKIOMEN VAL­LEY 74, BOY­ER­TOWN 49 » Isa­iah Domine, Josh Magee and Cole Peter­lin each won two events to lead the Vik­ings past the Bears in their PAC Lib­erty Divi­sion meet on April 4.

Domine got his firsts in the 100 (12.08) and long jump (18-11), Magee won both hur­dles events (300 in­ter­me­di­ates, 43.38 and 110 highs, 18.20) and Peter­lin headed the high jump (6-0) and triple jump (38-8 1/2). Boy­er­town got a pair of firsts from Josh Endy in the 1,600 (4:48.80) and 800 (2:01.84).

PERKIOMEN VAL­LEY 64, BOY­ER­TOWN 54 » Christina War­ren won four events as the Vik­ings by­passed the Bears in their PAC Lib­erty Divi­sion meet on April 4.

War­ren swept the hur­dles, win­ning the 300 in­ter­me­di­ates in 50.84 and the 100 lows in 15.68. She also won the long jump in 16-8 and the triple jump in 36-7.
