READING » The Miller Gallery at Alvernia University welcomes artist Brent Brown. His exhibition “Free Imagination” opens with an artist reception from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sept. 24. The exhibition runs through Oct. 19.

Brown is a prolific artist using found materials, who recently won third place at the 2018 Goggle Works 12th Annual Juried Exhibition.

He also had a exhibit alongside Sybil Roe Thompson at Philadelphia’s Magical Gardens in 2017 and a group show in the Cohen Gallery at the Goggle Works in 2016.

Currently, Brown is a studio artist at the Goggle Works Center for the Arts. He is represented by the Outsider Folk Art Gallery.

Brown is living in a place for people with emotional disabilities and he is not able to use many of the materials he would like to make his art. He is now working with paper, cardboard, glue and acrylic paint to make his wonderful pieces. He refers to his pieces as puppets because he has developed a way to give them moving arms, legs and heads with the use of cardboard pegs. He would love to find a way to get back to working with clay.

Exhibition hours are Monday through Saturday, 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

The Miller Gallery is located in Francis Hall at Alvernia University, 400 St. Bernardine St., Reading.
