GIRLS STATE ATTENDEE
Caroline Smith, a junior at Amherst Central High School, will attend Empire Girls State in July as the first ACHS student to represent the district at the week-long leadership forum. The program at SUNY Brockport includes hands-on educational workshops on Americanism and the political process. Sponsored by the New York State American Legion Auxiliary, it boasts recognizable alumni such as Jane Pauly, Leeza Gibbons, and Texas Gov. Ann Richards.
Caroline is a member of the swim and lacrosse sports teams, serving as swim team captain, JV lacrosse captain, and the captains club. She is a member of the Spanish club and SAAD. She volunteers as the varsity boys swim team manager, and does community service for summer camps and lifeguarding.
Caroline plans to attend a four-year college and is considering a major in engineering, physics, political science or marketing at either Ohio State, Michigan, Georgetown, Boston University or Northeastern.
The Amherst Alumni made a generous donation supporting this summer opportunity for Caroline.
