GIRLS STATE AT­TENDEE

Caroline Smith, a ju­nior at Amherst Cen­tral High School, will at­tend Em­pire Girls State in July as the first ACHS stu­dent to rep­re­sent the district at the week-long lead­er­ship fo­rum. The pro­gram at SUNY Brock­port in­cludes hands-on ed­u­ca­tional work­shops on Amer­i­can­ism and the po­lit­i­cal process. Spon­sored by the New York State Amer­i­can Le­gion Aux­il­iary, it boasts rec­og­niz­able alumni such as Jane Pauly, Leeza Gib­bons, and Texas Gov. Ann Richards.

Caroline is a mem­ber of the swim and lacrosse sports teams, serv­ing as swim team cap­tain, JV lacrosse cap­tain, and the cap­tains club. She is a mem­ber of the Span­ish club and SAAD. She vol­un­teers as the var­sity boys swim team man­ager, and does com­mu­nity ser­vice for sum­mer camps and life­guard­ing.

Caroline plans to at­tend a four-year col­lege and is con­sid­er­ing a ma­jor in engi­neer­ing, physics, po­lit­i­cal sci­ence or mar­ket­ing at ei­ther Ohio State, Michi­gan, Ge­orge­town, Bos­ton Univer­sity or North­east­ern.

The Amherst Alumni made a gen­er­ous do­na­tion sup­port­ing this sum­mer op­por­tu­nity for Caroline.
