154-unit housing complex for UB students rejected by Town Board

The Buffalo News - - LOCAL NEWS -

A proposal to build a student housing complex near the University at Buffalo’s North Campus in Amherst was unanimously rejected Monday night by the Town Board.

Board members denied a request to remove deed restrictions on the parcels at 2949, 2925 and 2915 North Forest Road. Core Spaces, an out-of-town developer of student housing, had proposed a four-story, 154-unit complex for 500 students attending the UB campus about one mile south.

Business owners from the nearby Bryant Woods Office Park on Monday expressed concerns about increased traffic, public safety and property values. Representatives of Core Spaces sought to assure the board that all those concerns had been addressed. But Supervisor Barry A. Weinstein and the board’s four other members agreed that the project was not a good fit for the neighborhood.
