Gaughan ral­lied from an equal­ized tire that put him three laps down to fin­ish 13th on the lead lap and nail down the fi­nal spot in the Xfin­ity Se­ries Play­offs.

To­day, in the sec­ond race of the Mon­ster En­ergy Cup play­offs,

is on the pole for the Tales of the Tur­tles 400 at Chicagoland (3 p.m., NBCSN).

Cos­tol­nick se­lected

Joshua Cos­tol­nick of St. Joe’s is go­ing to the 2017 World Row­ing Cham­pi­onships in Sara­sota, Fla. as part of the North­east­ern Re­gional All-Star team.

Cos­tol­nick was se­lected from among 900 high school row­ers for this event. He made it through the first round of se­lec­tion and was asked to at­tend the fi­nal round in Saratoga Springs. Af­ter two days he ws named to the team.

The 19-rower North­east­ern team will com­pete against five other Un­der-19 teams in the Youth Re­gional Chal­lenge in Sara­sota on Sept. 23-24. It will be held dur­ing the World Cham­pi­onships at Nathan Ben­der­son Park. They will be com­pet­ing in eights, quadru­ple sculls for both men and women.
