Dragons win Wayne Invite
Maple Grove’s boys and girls cross country teams both finished first in the Division IV races at the Wayne Pre-State Invitational on Saturday. Michael Peppy came in first in the boys race, while freshman girls Carling Lockwood, Ava Crist and Christina Peppy finished fifth, sixth and seventh, respectively.
eighth-grader Megan McLaughlin finished first in the D-III race, as the Blue Devils placed six girls in the top 23 to finish first as a team. Ian Russ and the boys team both came in second place. Elsewhere among the boys, Grey Conover finished seventh in D-I and Ray Sambrotto fifth in D-II. For the girls, Sydney Nowicki finished 10th in D-I and sixth in D-II.
Volley titles for OP, Akron
The Orchard Park girls volleyball team swept Niagara Wheatfield, 25-19 and 25-22, for the championship of the Sweet Home Tournament.
Wheatfield beat in three sets in the semis, while the Quakers swept Sweet Home.
OP’s Liz Chow was awarded MVP. Named to the all-tournament team were Abby Borkowski Samantha Hare Jenna Sonnenberg and Danielle Brochey (Niagara Wheatfield), Kate Hennessy (Orchard Park), Clare Falkowski (Sacred Heart), Christie Ackendorf (Sweet Home), Allie Macon
and Meghan Meulbeur Pioneer’s Riley Jones At the Starpoint Tournament,
swept the host Spartans, 25-15 and 25-7, for the title. Akron’s Neely Abrams and Darion Jonathan made the all-tournament team, as did Starpoint’s Hailey Lucas, Je’ne Brown, Aspen Moore and
Jenny Myers. In boys volleyball tournament, beat the host Warriors in straight sets in the final, 25-19 and 25-15.
Panthers blank rival
Kayleigh Daniels scored twice and Madalyn Traverse made nine saves in 2-0 Niagara-Orleans League girls soccer win at rival Wilson.
Emilee Hanlon scored three times in a 5-3 nonleague win over Kaitlyn Davis added a goal and two assists for the winners. Katie Bodenmiller scored all three goals for Westfield.

Ryan Miskell scored the gamewinning goal with 10 minutes left on a cross from Tim Oswald to give
a 2-1 boys soccer win over crosstown rival
came away with a 2-1 win at Section V’s Bishop Kearney. Derek Bartlo and Mitchell Stein scored to push the team’s record to 3-3.

Raiders victorious on road
Barker field hockey completed a 2-0 trip to Pennsylvania with a 3-2 win over Upper St. Clair in Pittsburgh. Katrina Clare scored twice for the Raiders (4-1).
