Dragons win Wayne In­vite

Maple Grove’s boys and girls cross coun­try teams both fin­ished first in the Di­vi­sion IV races at the Wayne Pre-State In­vi­ta­tional on Satur­day. Michael Peppy came in first in the boys race, while fresh­man girls Car­ling Lock­wood, Ava Crist and Christina Peppy fin­ished fifth, sixth and sev­enth, re­spec­tively.

eighth-grader Megan McLaughlin fin­ished first in the D-III race, as the Blue Devils placed six girls in the top 23 to fin­ish first as a team. Ian Russ and the boys team both came in sec­ond place. Else­where among the boys, Grey Conover fin­ished sev­enth in D-I and Ray Sam­brotto fifth in D-II. For the girls, Syd­ney Now­icki fin­ished 10th in D-I and sixth in D-II.

Vol­ley ti­tles for OP, Akron

The Or­chard Park girls vol­ley­ball team swept Ni­a­gara Wheat­field, 25-19 and 25-22, for the cham­pi­onship of the Sweet Home Tour­na­ment.

Wheat­field beat in three sets in the semis, while the Quak­ers swept Sweet Home.

OP’s Liz Chow was awarded MVP. Named to the all-tour­na­ment team were Abby Borkowski Sa­man­tha Hare Jenna Son­nen­berg and Danielle Brochey (Ni­a­gara Wheat­field), Kate Hen­nessy (Or­chard Park), Clare Falkowski (Sa­cred Heart), Christie Ack­endorf (Sweet Home), Al­lie Macon

and Meghan Meul­beur Pioneer’s Ri­ley Jones At the Star­point Tour­na­ment,

swept the host Spar­tans, 25-15 and 25-7, for the ti­tle. Akron’s Neely Abrams and Dar­ion Jonathan made the all-tour­na­ment team, as did Star­point’s Hai­ley Lu­cas, Je’ne Brown, Aspen Moore and

Jenny My­ers. In boys vol­ley­ball tour­na­ment, beat the host War­riors in straight sets in the fi­nal, 25-19 and 25-15.

Pan­thers blank ri­val

Kayleigh Daniels scored twice and Mada­lyn Tra­verse made nine saves in 2-0 Ni­a­gara-Or­leans League girls soc­cer win at ri­val Wilson.

Emilee Han­lon scored three times in a 5-3 non­league win over Kait­lyn Davis added a goal and two as­sists for the win­ners. Katie Bo­den­miller scored all three goals for West­field.

Late goal for Ham­burg

Ryan Miskell scored the gamewin­ning goal with 10 min­utes left on a cross from Tim Oswald to give

a 2-1 boys soc­cer win over crosstown ri­val

came away with a 2-1 win at Sec­tion V’s Bishop Kear­ney. Derek Bartlo and Mitchell Stein scored to push the team’s record to 3-3.

Raiders vic­to­ri­ous on road

Barker field hockey com­pleted a 2-0 trip to Penn­syl­va­nia with a 3-2 win over Up­per St. Clair in Pitts­burgh. Ka­t­rina Clare scored twice for the Raiders (4-1).
