David A. Kar­neth, ac­coun­tant, con­troller

David A. Kar­neth of Amherst, a cer­ti­fied pub­lic ac­coun­tant for more than 40 years, died Mon­day in Hospice Buf­falo, Cheek­towaga. He was 74.

Born in Buf­falo, he at­tended St. Matthew’s Ele­men­tary School and was a 1961 grad­u­ate of Kens­ing­ton High School.

En­list­ing in the Navy, he served for six years and was as­signed to the USS Jamestown, a tech­ni­cal re­search ship. He was a com­mu­ni­ca­tions spe­cial­ist and learned to speak flu­ent Rus­sian.

Re­turn­ing from ser­vice, he at­tended the Univer­sity at Buf­falo on the GI Bill, earned a bach­e­lor’s de­gree in ac­count­ing and be­came a cer­ti­fied pub­lic ac­coun­tant.

Mr. Kar­neth was for­mer con­troller of City Mat­tress and was a re­gional CPA man­ager for sev­eral firms. He also main­tained his own ac­count­ing and tax prepa­ra­tion prac­tice in his home.

He at­tended the Chapel at Cross­point.

Sur­vivors in­clude his wife of 53 years, the for­mer An­nette Testa; a daugh­ter, Kath­leen; three broth­ers, Thomas, Arthur and Richard; a sis­ter, Rose­mary Bei­dle; and a grand­son.

A memo­rial ser­vice will be ar­ranged.
