Astros get Cole in trade

A day af­ter reach­ing a one-year agree­ment with the Pitts­burgh Pi­rates to avoid ar­bi­tra­tion, right-han­der was traded to the Hous­ton Astros. Hous­ton sent right-han­ders and base­man

third and out­fielder to Pitts­burgh in the

deal.

Trade spec­u­la­tion swirled around Cole ear­lier this week, with the Astros and New York Yan­kees ru­mored to have in­ter­est prior to the 27-year-old reach­ing a one-year, $6.75 mil­lion agree­ment with the Pi­rates.

Cole went 12-12 with a 4.26 ERA and 196 strike­outs in 33 starts in 2017. He has a 59-42 record with a 3.50 ERA in parts of five sea­sons with the Pi­rates. The No. 1 over­all choice in the 2011 draft fin­ished fourth in the Na­tional League Cy Young bal­lot­ing in 2015 when he went 19-8 with a 2.60 ERA and made his lone All-Star team.

He has one year of ar­bi­tra­tion el­i­gi­bil­ity re­main­ing.

Mus­grove, 25, went 7-8 with a 4.77 ERA in 38 games in 2017, his sec­ond ma­jor league sea­son, split­ting his year be­tween the ro­ta­tion and the bullpen.

Feliz, 24, went 4-2 with a 5.63 ERA in 46 re­lief ap­pear­ances with the Astros last sea­son, draw­ing his ca­reer num­bers to 12-3 with a 5.13 ERA in parts of three sea­sons in Hous­ton.
