Goal-line play call turned the tide
Please do not categorize this letter as second-guessing. This letter unequivocally states that the passplay which was called when the Bills found themselves with a first down on the 1½-yard line was the biggest bonehead call of the season or maybe of the entire Bills’ franchise history. Commissioner Roger Goodell should prosecute the person responsible for the call for a felony: criminally negligent play-calling; or at least the misdemeanor of misappropriation of talent.
With three downs to punch it in for the score and seven points, the Bills wasted the proven power and finesse of Mike Tolbert and LeSean McCoy for the lower percentage pass play. Even if the backs would have been prevented from banging it in on all three downs, the Bills could have kicked the field goal, leaving the Jags with nearly 90 seconds less time to score in the first half. If the Bills scored the TD, the halftime score might have been 7-0, a 10-point swing!
Oh, well. I’ll just fall back to saying, “Maybe next year.” in the league. The Worst! Fix it. If you can’t run the ball and score from the 1- or 2-yard line with first and goal, then you have a real problem. It happened all year. The Bills were the better team (last) Sunday and should not have lost.
Wide receivers with speed and hands! These guys looked so slow on Sunday, it was plain awful. You can’t stretch the field with this crew.
A real tight end that can actually catch the ball. Clay is not the guy. Package him up and trade him for a real tight end.
Make a serious effort to bring in a real QB. A lot of guys will be unrestricted (Drew Brees, Eli Manning, Alex Smith). Then draft one also.
Peterman does not put enough zip on the ball to not get picked.
Depth at key positions is sorely needed.
The defense is sound but will probably lose key players. That’s too bad. These guys played (their) hearts out.
