Family Network budget hearing nears
The Calvert County Board of County Commissioners will host a public hearing to consider and receive comments on a budget adjustment for the fiscal 2018 Calvert County Family Network operating budget. The hearing will begin at 10:30 a.m. at the Commissioners’ Hearing Room, 175 Main St., in Prince Frederick.
During the hearing, Calvert County Family Network Coordinator Julie Mashino will answer questions about the allocation of a $107,645 grant increase from the Maryland Children’s Cabinet through the Governor’s Office for Children (GOC). The additional grant dollars will fund a new two-generational strategy to provide mental health and substance abuse counseling and support for at-risk mothers, a press release states. The program will also provide targeted outreach to disconnected youth, homeless and/or those recently released from prison.
The GOC-approved strategies will expand accredited home visiting programs at Calvert County Public Schools and mental health counseling services offered at Tri-County Youth Services Bureau and provide support for substance use, reproductive and maternal health services offered by Calvert County Health Department’s Healthy Beginnings program, according to the release.
For information, contact Calvert County Department of Community Resources at 410-535-1600, ext. 8803, or via email at Julie. Mashino@ calvertcountymd.gov. Individuals who cannot attend the public hearing may submit written comments. These comments must be received by 4:30 p.m. Sept. 12; emailing COMMISS@ calvertcountymd.gov or mail them to the BOCC at 175 Main St., Prince Frederick, MD 20678.
