Fam­ily Network bud­get hear­ing nears

The Calvert County Board of County Com­mis­sion­ers will host a public hear­ing to con­sider and re­ceive com­ments on a bud­get ad­just­ment for the fis­cal 2018 Calvert County Fam­ily Network op­er­at­ing bud­get. The hear­ing will be­gin at 10:30 a.m. at the Com­mis­sion­ers’ Hear­ing Room, 175 Main St., in Prince Fred­er­ick.

Dur­ing the hear­ing, Calvert County Fam­ily Network Co­or­di­na­tor Julie Mashino will an­swer ques­tions about the al­lo­ca­tion of a $107,645 grant in­crease from the Maryland Chil­dren’s Cab­i­net through the Gover­nor’s Of­fice for Chil­dren (GOC). The ad­di­tional grant dol­lars will fund a new two-gen­er­a­tional strat­egy to pro­vide men­tal health and sub­stance abuse coun­sel­ing and sup­port for at-risk moth­ers, a press re­lease states. The pro­gram will also pro­vide tar­geted out­reach to dis­con­nected youth, home­less and/or those re­cently re­leased from prison.

The GOC-ap­proved strate­gies will ex­pand ac­cred­ited home vis­it­ing pro­grams at Calvert County Public Schools and men­tal health coun­sel­ing ser­vices of­fered at Tri-County Youth Ser­vices Bureau and pro­vide sup­port for sub­stance use, re­pro­duc­tive and ma­ter­nal health ser­vices of­fered by Calvert County Health Depart­ment’s Healthy Be­gin­nings pro­gram, ac­cord­ing to the re­lease.
