Al­fred Louis “Al” En­gel, 69, of Dunkirk, MD passed away Septem­ber 4, 2017 at Calvert Memo­rial Hos­pi­tal in Prince Fred­er­ick. He was born Oct. 3, 1947 in Pitts­burgh, PA, to John Al­fred Jr. and Marie Piz­zuti En­gel. He was raised in Chillum, MD, and at­tended St. John Bap­tist de la Salle Ele­men­tary and grad­u­ated from North­west­ern High School, Class of 1967. He was a mem­ber of the Stone and Mar­ble Ma­sons of Met­ro­pol­i­tan Wash­ing­ton Union, and was em­ployed as a mas­ter stone and mar­ble mason with Boat­man and Mag­nani, Inc., and had worked on nu­mer­ous projects in the Wash­ing­ton area, in­clud­ing the Na­tional Shrine, the U.S. Capi­tol, and the White House. A res­i­dent of Dunkirk for the past 20 years, Al was a fan of NAS­CAR.

He was pre­ceded in death by his par­ents; and is sur­vived by a sis­ter, Josephine Barthlow and her hus­band John of Ocala, FL. He is also sur­vived by a nephew, Steven Barthlow and wife An­gela of Sunderland; a niece, Regina Wiese and hus­band Ron of Wilm­ing­ton, NC; a great nephew, Sawyer Barthlow; and great niece, Rachael Wiese.

A memo­rial visi­ta­tion will be held Satur­day, Septem­ber 16 from 11 a.m. un­til 12 Noon at St. An­thony’s Catholic Church, North Beach, where Mass will fol­low at 12 Noon.

In lieu of flow­ers, memo­rial do­na­tion in Al’s name may be made to St. An­thony’s Church.
