Chamber to host campaign school
The Calvert County Chamber of Commerce, together with the Calvert County Democratic Central Committee and Republican Central Committee, will host a nonpartisan campaign school for candidates, political operatives, central committee members and anyone else interested in campaigns, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, at the College of Southern Maryland Prince Frederick Campus.
The school will begin with a Board of Elections overview, followed by breakout sessions in the morning on topics such as campaign organization, fundraising, public speaking and the law. Each session will be repeated so participants have the option of picking two of the four, a press release states. During lunch, participants will hear “Tales from the Trail,” stories from several former candidates and presentations from the central committees. After lunch, a different set of four breakout sessions will be offered, to include research, coalition building, direct mail and earned and paid media. The sessions will be repeated so each participant can attend two.
Political and public relations experts from across the region are being recruited to lead the sessions, each of which will feature a presentation and time for questions from the attendees. Experts will also be on hand for one-onone questions following each session.
The cost is $35, which includes a continental breakfast and lunch. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., with the school starting at 9 a.m. Register at www. calvertchamber.org. For more information, call 410535-2577.
