Cham­ber to host cam­paign school

The Calvert County Cham­ber of Com­merce, to­gether with the Calvert County Demo­cratic Cen­tral Com­mit­tee and Repub­li­can Cen­tral Com­mit­tee, will host a non­par­ti­san cam­paign school for candidates, po­lit­i­cal op­er­a­tives, cen­tral com­mit­tee mem­bers and any­one else in­ter­ested in cam­paigns, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Satur­day, Oct. 21, at the Col­lege of South­ern Mary­land Prince Fred­er­ick Cam­pus.

The school will be­gin with a Board of Elec­tions over­view, fol­lowed by break­out ses­sions in the morn­ing on top­ics such as cam­paign or­ga­ni­za­tion, fundraising, pub­lic speak­ing and the law. Each ses­sion will be re­peated so par­tic­i­pants have the op­tion of pick­ing two of the four, a press re­lease states. Dur­ing lunch, par­tic­i­pants will hear “Tales from the Trail,” sto­ries from sev­eral for­mer candidates and pre­sen­ta­tions from the cen­tral com­mit­tees. Af­ter lunch, a dif­fer­ent set of four break­out ses­sions will be of­fered, to in­clude re­search, coali­tion build­ing, di­rect mail and earned and paid me­dia. The ses­sions will be re­peated so each par­tic­i­pant can at­tend two.

Po­lit­i­cal and pub­lic re­la­tions ex­perts from across the re­gion are be­ing re­cruited to lead the ses­sions, each of which will fea­ture a pre­sen­ta­tion and time for ques­tions from the at­ten­dees. Ex­perts will also be on hand for one-onone ques­tions fol­low­ing each ses­sion.
