Above, for­mer state sen­a­tor and World War II vet­eran Bernie Fowler, right, led the an­nual “On Watch” wreath-lay­ing cer­e­mony Sun­day in Dow­ell, along­side Lt. j.g. Tris­tan En­gle, chap­lain at Naval Air Sta­tion Patux­ent River. The cer­e­mony, hosted by the Calvert Marine Mu­seum, hon­ors fallen sol­diers as well as mil­i­tary men and women who have served or are cur­rently serv­ing. Be­low left, among the lo­cal vet­er­ans in at­ten­dance at this year’s “On Watch” cer­e­mony was World War II vet­eran Michael Gnip, who cel­e­brates his 93rd birthday Nov. 13 at Char­lotte Hall Vet­er­ans Home. Be­low right, Jim D’Amico, pic­tured, along with his wife, not pic­tured, bought two “On Watch” memo­rial bricks in remembrance of their fathers, both of whom served in the mil­i­tary but in dif­fer­ent branches. D’Amico’s fa­ther, a U.S. Army sol­dier, served in Pearl Har­bor, while his wife’s fa­ther served in the Coast Guard.
