Remembering all who’ve served
Above, former state senator and World War II veteran Bernie Fowler, right, led the annual “On Watch” wreath-laying ceremony Sunday in Dowell, alongside Lt. j.g. Tristan Engle, chaplain at Naval Air Station Patuxent River. The ceremony, hosted by the Calvert Marine Museum, honors fallen soldiers as well as military men and women who have served or are currently serving. Below left, among the local veterans in attendance at this year’s “On Watch” ceremony was World War II veteran Michael Gnip, who celebrates his 93rd birthday Nov. 13 at Charlotte Hall Veterans Home. Below right, Jim D’Amico, pictured, along with his wife, not pictured, bought two “On Watch” memorial bricks in remembrance of their fathers, both of whom served in the military but in different branches. D’Amico’s father, a U.S. Army soldier, served in Pearl Harbor, while his wife’s father served in the Coast Guard.
