Lo­cal fire­fighter re­turns from hur­ri­cane de­ploy­ment

One of Prince Fred­er­ick Vol­un­teer Fire Depart­ment’s very own was re­cently de­ployed with his ca­reer depart­ment to help cit­i­zens in North Carolina.

Capt. Rob­bie Helms, fire­fight- er for Howard County Fire and Res­cue, launched with­out hes­i­ta­tion to the South to as­sist with hu­man­i­tar­ian ef­forts, ac­cord­ing to a PFVFD news re­lease. Helms and his co-work­ers teamed up with a crew from Bal­ti­more City Fire Depart­ment to gain ac­cess to homes and de­liver food and wa­ter to sur­vivors.

While on the ground, first re­spon­ders from both de­part­ments even con­structed a bridge to help gain ac­cess to houses im­pacted and cut off by wa­ter, the re­lease states. They also worked hand in hand with the FBI do­ing checks on cit­i­zens in the area.

“We are ex­tremely proud of the work Capt. Helms and the team ac­com­plished,” the PFVFD re­lease states.
