Mary­land sher­iffs gather in Calvert

Sher­iff Mike Evans (R), left, re­cently elected as pres­i­dent of the Mary­land Sher­iffs’ As­so­ci­a­tion, hosted the monthly meet­ing of the as­so­ci­a­tion Oct. 18 at Do­min­ion En­ergy Cove Point Busi­ness Cen­ter in the Patux­ent Busi­ness Park in Lusby. Ac­cord­ing to a press re­lease, sher­iffs and rep­re­sen­ta­tives from across the state at­tended the meet­ing to dis­cuss as­so­ci­a­tion busi­ness, cur­rent and pend­ing state leg­is­la­tion af­fect­ing law en­force­ment, crime trends and best prac­tices. Sev­eral sub-com­mit­tees, Mary­land High­way Safety Of­fice, Home­land Se­cu­rity, a med­i­cal mar­i­juana com­mit­tee and sev­eral oth­ers gave sub­ject mat­ter re­ports. The board of di­rec­tors also re­ceived pre­sen­ta­tions from top law en­force­ment lead­ers on best ways to iden­tify re­peat of­fend­ers. Pic­tured with Evans is As­sis­tant Sher­iff Lt. Col.
