Chicka­mauga Park and Out­door Chat­tanooga of­fer Or­chard Knob bi­cy­cle tour

Chicka­mauga and Chat­tanooga Na­tional Mil­i­tary Park and Out­door Chat­tanooga are part­ner­ing in or­der to pro­vide vis­i­tors a unique op­por­tu­nity to ex­plore Or­chard Knob and the sur­round­ing com­mu­nity by bi­cy­cle Satur­day, May 16.

This two-hour bi­cy­cle tour will begin at Or­chard Knob El­e­men­tary School, 2000 East Third Street, in Chat­tanooga, Tenn.) at 9:30 a.m. Par­tic­i­pants will then bike to Or­chard Knob Reser­va­tion, through the sur­round­ing neigh­bor­hood and end at the Chat­tanooga Na­tional Ceme­tery. The over­all ride length for this tour is ap­prox­i­mately 2.5 miles on flat to mod­er­ately-hilly ter­rain.

The public is in­vited to bring their bi­cy­cles and join in this leisurely-paced his­tor­i­cal ride. A Na­tional Park Ser­vice ranger will dis­cuss the fa­mous as­saults on Or­chard Knob and Mis­sion­ary Ridge as part of this spe­cial pro­gram. Par­tic­i­pants will also visit the Chat­tanooga Na­tional Ceme­tery in or­der to learn more about the sac­ri­fices sol­diers made in or­der to re­de­fine the coun­try.

Loaner bi­cy­cles from the Out­door Chat­tanooga Mo­bile Bi­cy­cle Fleet will be avail­able for rid­ers five feet tall and over at no charge, thanks to spon­sor­ship from the Friends of the Park and the Chat­tanooga Bi­cy­cle Club. Reser­va­tions for th­ese bi­cy­cles are re­quired, con­tact Out­door Chat­tanooga at 423-643-6888. This ride is ap­pro­pri­ate for adults and chil­dren ages eight and older when ac­com­pa­nied by an adult. All par­tic­i­pants are re­quired to wear hel­mets.
