Ridge­land tabs Lind­say Tahler for vol­ley­ball post

The Ridge­land High School ath­letic depart­ment an­nounced their new coach­ing staff for the 2015 sea­son.

Lind­say Tahler, a mem­ber of the 2009 Ridge­land grad­u­at­ing class, has been named as the new head coach, re­plac­ing Kari Cooper, who had been in the po­si­tion for the past four years.

Tahler re­turned to Walker County last year to join the fac­ulty at her alma mater af­ter com­plet­ing a de­gree in Jour­nal­ism at the Uni­ver­sity of Ge­or­gia. She cur­rently teaches English-Lan­guage Arts in the RHS Fresh­man Academy.

Les­lie Welch, a Walker County na­tive and a grad­u­ate of LaFayette High School, will serve as an as­sis­tant. Welch has an ex­ten­sive back­ground in vol­ley­ball, in­clud­ing four years as a var­sity starter for the Lady Ram­blers and mul­ti­ple se­lect teams.

She was twice named North Ge­or­gia Player of the Year and earned a vol­ley­ball schol­ar­ship to Shorter Uni­ver­sity in Rome, where she was named an Aca­demic All-Amer­i­can and con­trib­uted to her team’s No. 2 na­tional NCCAA rank­ing. Welch has had head coach­ing ex­pe­ri­ence pre­vi­ously at the mid­dle school level. This will be her first sea­son as a high school coach.
