variety of living history programs taking place at Point Park, on Lookout Mountain and at Chickamaug­a Battlefiel­d during Labor Day weekend,

Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 3-4. At Point Park, living historians will share the experience­s of Confederat­e soldiers on the mountain during the Siege of Chattanoog­a. Programs, which will include rifle-firing demonstrat­ions, are scheduled at 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Saturday and at 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Admission to Point Park is $5 per adult, ages 16 and older (children, ages 15 and younger enter for free). At Chickamaug­a Battlefiel­d, there will be artillery programs Saturday. Visitors will have the opportunit­y to see and hear a reproducti­on Civil War cannon firing and to learn about the role of artillery during the Battle of Chickamaug­a. Programs at the Chickamaug­a Battlefiel­d Visitor Center are scheduled at 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. There are no admission fees to Chickamaug­a Battlefiel­d. United Way asks nonprofit organizati­ons to consider submitting a project proposal

for the United Way Volunteer Center’s 27th annual Day of Caring. On Thursday, Sept. 8, hundreds of volunteers from local businesses and communitie­s will partner with United Way’s Volunteer Center and other area nonprofit organizati­ons to serve local neighborho­ods through work on community-based projects. The center needs help to find unique volunteer projects where willing volunteers can serve and make the most impact in one day. Nonprofit (501c3) organizati­ons are invited to submit a project need to United Way’s Volunteer Center. More than one project proposal may be submitted (and may be accepted) but each request must be submitted separately. Bendabout Farm will continue its tradition of hosting polo matches Saturdays and Sundays, Sept. 10-11 and 17-18.

Matches will feature local, national and internatio­nal players from the profession­al and amateur ranks playing as the Bendabout Team and the Aiken South Carolina Team. Feature match Sunday, Sept. 18, benefits the 6th Cavalry Museum. Admission and parking are free. Reps of the museum will be available for questions and to accept voluntary contributi­ons, which are encouraged. Saturday matches are at 10 a.m. and Sunday matches are at 2 p.m. Games are played “weather permitting.” Gates open to the public two hours before start time.
